There is an anomalous position regarding the parish council elections on 5 May 2022 in Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Somerset.
Article 15 of the North Yorkshire and Somerset Structural Changes Orders provides for parish council elections in 2023 and 2024 to be cancelled and for a complete set of parish elections across both counties to be held on 5 May 2022 and then in 2027 and every four years thereafter. The 11 districts of North Yorkshire and Somerset have published the relevant Parish Notices of Election.
There is no such provision in the Cumbria Structural Changes Order. Under the existing electoral arrangements parish council elections in Carlisle and South Lakeland follow the pattern of district elections by thirds. Parish elections due this year in Carlisle (one parish) and South Lakeland (7 parishes including Kendal Town Council) have been called.
There is no provision for parish elections in the rest of Cumbria, which is completely parished apart from the urban areas within Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle. The next parish elections are due in 2023 (and 2024 for some parishes in Carlisle and South Lakeland).
The next unitary elections in Cumberland and in Westmorland and Furness are due in 2027 and every fourth year thereafter. Most of the current parish councillors have served since 2019 and are due to retire in 2023. It is unclear whether their terms of office will be extended to 2027, or whether separate parish only elections will be held in 2023 (and 2024 for some parishes in Carlisle and South Lakeland).

The successful candidate returned unopposed in Keswick (East) on 5 May is a Labour Party candidate - so this is a Labour gain from Green Party.

Peter Harris 430 (67.5%) Rupert Moss-Eccardt 207 (32.5%)
Turnout 17.5%
Harris was supported by the local Conservatives and Moss-Eccardt by the Liberal Democrats. The by-election took place after the sitting councillor, who also sits on East Cambs District Council as a Liberal Democrat, forfeited his seat after non-attendance.

Westham West Liberal Democrats Tim YOUNG 262 Conservatives Richard KOSIOR 174 Labour Sara GREENHALF 95 The closer margin here isn't too surprising as the Lib Dem candidate lives in a completely different part of Weymouth, although he works in a nearby school. Lib Dem literature decided to point out that he didn't live in the ward and justify it with where he works, which was a bit foolish as I don't think his SOPN address is obviously far away from the ward so it could've gone unnoticed. Underhill Labour 194 Conservative 189 - which is much better for the Conservatives than I'd expect. Especially as the SOPN addresses make it fairly clear that the Labour candidate was from Underhill and the Conservative from Tophill.

There are then a few about which I am uncertain: Rutland, Uppingham (2). A single candidate has been elected, but they haven't published the description. Kings Lynn & West Norfolk, Downham Market. There are meant to be elections here, but they haven't published any SOPNs or Notices of uncontested elections. I think in the past they've done this when they didn't get any candidates, but 0 for 10 seats would be pretty poor going. North Devon, Brendon & Countisbury. No SOPN, I guess this has gone uncontested.Malvern Hills Trust, Chase. [], []. I'm using "appears on the council's page of upcoming elections" as sufficient grounds to include this, although it's not really a parish or town council.
Edit: Added missing elections - thanks listener.
