Another one where the byelection technically won't be able to share polling stations with the referendum. We need someone to see what they actually do (I suspect ignore the rule and share polling stations anyway). What is the reasoning behind this rule? It was recommended by the Electoral Commission, on the grounds that the referendum decision should be "uncomplicated by competing messages and activity from elections taking place on the same day."

Thank you for making that clear. So we are dealing with good practice here, rather than a legal requirement.

I believe two polling stations in the same building is legally possible. You could divide the parish hall or whatever you are using as a polling station into two halves maybe with some sort of screen, with one polling station one end and one at the other. Then you would just have to be clever in the way you arrange the signage. Of course, it still means employing twice the amount of staff.

"Richard (The Lion) Enston (Independent)" What's the story there? Your guess is as good as mine. The guy's also making a run for the corresponding seat on the Conwy CBC too.

Some vacancies have occurred in two parish councils within the Three Rivers District Council area. After the 2014 parish elections to Chorleywood Parish Council, the composition was 10 LD, 7 C. Three Liberal Democrat councillors in Chorleywood North ward - Barbara Green, John Copley and Harry Davies - have resigned. The resignations are unconnected. A by-election will be held on 14 July. The result last time (seven elected) was: C 1005 / 976 / 957LD 452 / 371 / 368 / 365 / 362 / 347 / 268 UKIP 351 It is quite feasible that control of the parish council will ‘flip’ to the Conservatives if they nominate a full slate of candidates. After the 2015 parish elections to Watford Rural Parish Council, the composition was 7 C, 5 Lab, 1 LD, 1 UKIP. A Labour councillor in South Oxhey ward - William Waite - has resigned, and two Conservative councillors in Carpenders Park ward - Terry Dos Ramos and Angela Roberts - have also resigned. None of these resignations are connected. It would appear that the South Oxhey vacancy will be filled by co-option, as no Notice of Election has appeared on the district council web site. There will be a by-election in Carpenders Park ward; it is possible the election was called by the Liberal Democrats. Polling is also set for 14 July. The result last time (four elected) was: C 1879 / 1849 / 1821 / 1808Lab 765 / 705 / 599 / 548 The parish ward of Carpenders Park is smaller than the district council ward of the same name and resides wholly within the Watford parliamentary constituency. The SOPNs for these political by-elections have been published and throw up some interesting points: Chorleywood North there will be 3 C, 3 UKIP and 1 Ind candidates contesting the vacancies. So, whatever happens on polling day (14 July) the Lib Dems will lose control of the parish council. Curiously, all three UKIP candidates live outside the parish council area, and the third lives in Abbots Langley. Presumably he works/has a business in the parish council area as it is well over three miles from his home address to the parish council boundary. Carpenders Park will be a more straightforward contest: 2 C, 2 Lab, 2 Lib Dem and 2 UKIP. One of the Conservative candidates, Eric Bishop, is currently a district councillor for Carpenders Park and has recently finished his term of office as Chairman of Three Rivers District Council. Paul Gordon (Lab) was a TRDC councillor for Ashridge ward from 2011-14, and a parish councillor for Ashridge 2011-15. Stephen King (Lab) is currently a TRDC councillor (South Oxhey ward). Pam Hames (Lib Dem) is a popular figure in the area and has previously represented Carpenders Park ward at the district level.

There has just been a by-election in the Mostyn ward of the Llandudno Town Council, concurrent with a by-election for the Conwy CBC in the ward of the same name and (presumably) boundaries. By-election was triggered by the resignation of Labour councillor Jobi Hold, who stood down after news broke of his poor meeting attendance as a result of him skippering boats in the North Sea. Cllr. Hold also held the aforementioned county council seat.
So far I've not found any published results yet, but Labour managed to hold the Mostyn ward seat for the Conwy CBC, and I can only presume that they did the same for the town council seat. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
Edit: From what I can tell scouring various twitter feeds of local politicos and their associates, twin victories for Labour. Still going to await official publication of the results though.

Oddly enough, this is exactly the same amount of ballots rejected as for the concurrent County Council election, for the exact same reasons, in the exact same proportions.

There is a parish council by-election today for 2 places on Peasedown parish council (in Bath & N.E. Somerset).
Three candidates: Danny Brothers (Green) Nathan Hartley (Independent) Ray Love (Lib Dem)
Confusingly Nathan Hartley was the Lib Dem councillor for Peasedown on B&NES council before becoming an Independent. He stood down in 2015.
