I understand the specific psephological terminology at play here of course, but out of context I think the phrase "we didn't lose, we just didn't win" is probably one of the most Lib Dem things I've ever heard. "You win some, you lose some, and then there's that hard to define third category." I've never lost an election. I've failed to win a few though.

6 May 2021 (2 seats) – Lib Dem 842, Lab 751/718, Con 581/479 - 1 Lib Dem and 1 Lab elected
6 May 2021 West Northamptonshire Unitary Council (3 seats) - but very different boundaries - Lib Dem 1020/782/618, Lab 1003/891/790, Con 718/668/521
2 September 2021 (town council) – Lorraine Chirisa (Lab) failed to sign her declaration of acceptance of office Lib Dem gain from Lab – Lib Dem 444, Lab 437, Independent Network 96 – but it was close!
The successful Lib Dem candidate yesterday did not stand in the West Northamptonshire elections, but the defeated Lab candidate polled 790 votes in the West Northamptonshire elections
Can someone tell the ALDC.

Conservative 274 Liberal Democrat 199 Labour 183 Turnout 31.49%
Conservative hold 2019 7 Conservative, 1 Liberal Democrat elected
Dover Town Council: St Radigunds Ward
Conservative 257 Labour 248 Turnout 11.19% Looks like Conservative gain from Labour
Was an earlier by-election on 06 May this year, again a Conservative gain: Conservative 441, Labour 380, Green 138 - turnout 21.22%
2019 3 Labour, 1 Green elected

I know these are only town council elections, but Labour's results aren't good in Dover, Heanor, or Belper. and they are the sort of parliamentary seats Labour need to win.

2019 saw 3 no descriptions and 1 Labour elected unopposed The Labour Councillor is still showing as a councillor so Liberal Democrat gain from no description
Looks like the was an earlier co-option as new Councillor but no election details on MHDC website.

The Malvern town council by-election in Pickersleigh ward was caused by the resignation of Pat Mewton (Independent), who was one of four town councillors elected unopposed on 2 May 2019. Malvern (Pickersleigh) (4 seats)
3 May 2007 - 3 Malvern Town Action Group and 1 Con (Pat Mewton) unopposed 5 May 2011 - 1 Malvern Town Action Group and 1 Ind (Pat Mewton) unopposed - 2 vacancies for co-option 7 May 2015 - No Description 1311/884/568, Ind 1011/812 - Pat Mewton polled 812 and was elected in 4th position 2 May 2019 - 2 Ind (Including Pat Mewton), 1 No Description and 1 Lab unopposed - the other Ind has since been replaced by co-option
