Looks like 9 by-elections during January:
* 1 on 7th * 1 on 14th * 6 on 21st * 1 on 28th
4 of the former Councillors were elected only in all out elections in May 2015 - 3 for District Councils - 1 for a Unitary Authority 1 is for a Metropolitan Authority where the last election was in May 2015 and where the successful candidate faces re-election in May 1 for a London Borough last elected in 2014 1 a County Council elected in 2013 1 a Unitary Authority elected in 2013 and 1 in Scotland elected in 2012
Conservatives are defending 2 seats, both following the death of the previous Councillor Labour defend 4 seats, 2 arising from a death and 2 a resignation Liberal Democrats defend 1 where the resigning Councillor was sitting as an Independent SNP 1 seat following a death and UKIP 1 seat following a resignation
With all nominations now available: Conservatives are contesting all 9, Labour 8, Liberal Democrats 7, Greens and UKIP both 5, SNP 1 there are 4 Independents contesting 3 seats along with 1 each for All People and Christian - a total of 41 candidates for the 9 seats.
Predictions on this thread by 9.00 am on morning of election.

Carlisle, Botcherby: 9 Independent gain from Labour with majority ranging from 1% (Lennon) to 18% (hempie) with Arthur Figgis a Labour hold, 2% majority over Independent
Pete Whitehead: Independent 42.%, Labour 37.5, Conservative 20.4

I missed the cut this morning through sloth and inadvertence. I would have been the only one going for a narrow Conservative win over Labour. Perhaps the flooding will taint the Conservatives because they are in power and the weather is always the fault of the current minister!
