No chance your party could update its awful 1970s logo? Redolent of YL meetings in the decade taste neglected Dude - the YLs were top-notch. Best set of policies I can ever remember... If you can remember them you couldn't have been a real YL

Which surely shows a glitch in the way of calculating vote shares in these contests? In reality, Independents are massively down (mostly to the benefit of the Tories) not slightly up. I follow the same system as Middleenglander, which is to consider different independents as if they were different parties. There is no reason to assume links between Margaret Lyon Independent and Mark Pavey Independent. But I'll take your remark in account and think about it. For Ryedale, however, the change will be there, as it's the same Independent running again. Ah, Margaret Lyon. It is now 49 years since I left the area but even I recognise the name!

The SDP candidate in the Richmond by-election in 1989 who I think came second to William Hague was called Mike Potter. Not the same person as the by-election winner in Ryedale surely? Miss you posting Barnaby. Hope the fact that the polls were so badly wrong hasn't stopped you sharing your undoubted expertise.
