Interestingly Tony and Cherie Blair live in the Grendon Underwood & Brill ward at Wotton House, bought for £4m in 2008. As there is no Labour candidate who will they vote for? We will be drawing straws about canvassing the house - they may set the dogs on us. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wotton_HouseI would have thought they might vote Conservative

See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wotton_HouseCan you imagine the headlines and reaction if the press were to catch them (perhaps in disguise) turning up at the polling station, asking who they'd vote for? I think Cherie would be more likely to stay at home than Tony.

That would have been hilarious wouldn't it - Tony Blair contests District Council byelection. And loses. But could he get onto the approved candidates' list?

But could he get onto the approved candidates' list? Wouldn't need to. If Labour didn't stand a candidate (as they haven't ) he would be able to stand as an Independent and as someone who lives in the ward then comes through the middle and......

Last time Tony Blair tried to get a council selection, he came fifth in the selection (three to be selected).

Do we know what the Blairs did with their constituency house up north?

Surely a candidate named Newman is the only choice for a high-profile convert to Catholicism.

Apparently, the Lib Dem Candidate Julian Newman has gone on holiday to Tenerife, his leaflet says commitment.....and he won't be at the count on Wednesday 23rd December.
He also has a Postal Vote, and less than one hundred yards is the Polling Station, so at least he's making good use of his vote.
Incredible story though, that you are on holiday! Total embarassment.

Of course the holiday may have been booked some time ago - before the vacancy - before the byelection was called. It might have seemed a reasonable thought that a byelection on 24th or 31st December would be unlikely ...

NB, at our epic 2008 Copnor by-election win here in Portsmouth our candidate flew out on polling day morning to a holiday in Poland. This was known to the opposition yet we still gained the seat with a 900 majority. It's not always a massive hindrance for a by election (especially so this time of year I would imagine).

I found say it's rather wierd to see than the Conservative candidate seems to be Canadian and works in the High Commission of Canada in UK (it's an Embassy, but Commonwealth countries, having the same head of state, have those instead), as a commercial officer for Albertan government.

I think all Commonwealth countries have high commissions. And Bonar Law was Canadian.
