Giving UKIP a free run at the right of centre voters doesn't seem the smartest move by the Conservatives. They didn't have a candidate in Failsworth West a few weeks ago either. UKIP gained 33% in that ward.

Panic in Tunbridge wells:
The Conservative Party has sent an email showing their concern about the rise of UKIP after the Party unseated the leader of Tunbridge Wells council in May’s Council elections. A by-election is scheduled for June 14th, which appears to have the Conservatives on the defensive in that area. The email said “The June 14 by-election in Tunbridge Wells East is critical for the Association and Kent County Council. Why? Quite simply because of the growing influence of UKIP."

Plonkers (and I suspect some Blue people will agree). One is very cautious about sending out doom mongering messages. They normally leak!

Highly decent for UKIP there - and not so bad in Bucks, either. Surprised they didn't stand anybody in Wealden...... Though Labour's share in Oldham is down due to the UKIP intervention, it is actually a further small swing from the LibDems since last month
