Given the fact that 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the 1966 general election (and that Easter Monday is three days before that anniversary) I think it's very likely that BBC Parliament will replay that election on Easter Monday, therefore between now and then I shall complete my uploading of that election in the hope that someone who is able to get a better quality signal than I can on my DVD player will be able to upload a high quality recording of the transmission after the event.
Also, as I am game if anyone else is, shall we do a Twitter commentary on that election (if it is broadcast on Easter Monday?)

I note that it commences at 8.20am and runs until midnight - 15 hours 40 minutes with one changeover at 3.10pm. I will have to record it as it is too long to watch in one stint and Easter Monday does entail having to do other things in the course of the day for me.
It will be interesting to compare with 1997 where Labour wins some seats that it did not manage in 1997 and fails to win quite a few seats it did win in 1997. Obviously most constituencies had undergone at least two reviews in the intervening period which would account for most of this.

In addition to the 1966 election on Monday, BBC Parliament are also celebrating the 40th anniversary of Jim Callaghan becoming PM next Sunday:

Although it's BBC coverage on Monday this link includes the TV Times for the 1966 Election:- www.dropbox.com/sh/xkjujf342u4i4nu/AABxt3vT3xQCRnUGTpxaB9Zxa?dl=0There's Hugh Berrington's 'Instant Reckoner' etc. Wonder what happened to the clairvoyant who was forecasting a Tory victory? For Conservative supporters the cloud lifted somewhat six weeks later when Labour suffered indifferent local election results - lost 16 towns & cities. I've dug out the 'little elections' i.e. the UDCs for parts of the West Riding. Polling Day was Saturday 14th May and clashed with the FA Cup.

I've put Andy Roth's 'forecast sheets' for 1966 in the Dropbox. He's a bit scathing about David Butler:- www.dropbox.com/sh/xkjujf342u4i4nu/AABxt3vT3xQCRnUGTpxaB9Zxa?dl=0Perhaps one day we'll see the ITV 1974 (both) coverage uploaded. I'm that they were equal to if not superior (especially the graphics) to the BBC. Certainly ITV's Oct '74 forecast was far more accurate than the BBC's.

I'd like to see the ITN 1964 and 1966 programmes, mostly because they were preserved on videotape - the BBC used telerecording in this period. The 1964 programme was standards converted to 625 line some time after, through a cheap camera copy process which considerably degraded the picture quality; I'm not sure if they kept the original tapes.

I'd be particularly interested to see the February 1974 programme in case it provides any information we don't yet know about regarding their notional election calculations for 1970 - which they appear to have long forgotten about. This is what Colin Rallings told me by e-mail: At least I managed to obtain the BBC notionals.

Really swanarcadian? Really truly? The 1970 notionals that allow the BBC to state that if the 1970 election had been carried out on those boundaries the Conservatives would have won 338 seats, Labour 284 seats, the Liberals 6 and the Others on 7? Then pray sir, post it!
