I've got the BBC coverage of the 1996 US Presidential election but haven't uploaded it because it's long and very, very dull.

Here you are — sound quality is terrible unfortunately, and the show starts at 5 mins 20 secs. I've left the programmes before and after on to add a bit of interest to the upload:

When I was 17 he stood as a Labour candidate in the local elections and lost by 100 votes. Then he was a Labour councillor for Broad Green ward in Croydon from 1988 to 1993. I presume it's the same person (he was a northerner, so probably).

I remember Tony Slatcher when he was Labour agent for Cambridge in the early 1990s - helped engineer Anne Campbell's victory at the 1992 general election when she won from third place. He came from Croydon to Cambridge and then departed for places further north.

There was a European by-election for Merseyside West on the same day - I remember going to vote and the polling station being like the land that time forgot. I think that was the by-election in which UKIP didn't have a candidate because they didn't even know it was happening until it was too late for nominations.

Just goes to show how far UKIP's organisation competence has changed over the years!

Behind the scenes of the BBC's 1992 general election coverage, on Biteback three days later: Rupa Huq takes part in the discussion at 20 mins. She'd celebrated her 20th birthday a few days earlier. They made great play of the fact that Birmingham was counting 10 seats in one hall for the first time, but in the end the BBC didn't show a single declaration from wherever it was, which I assume was the then newly-built National Indoor Arena, (it opened on 4th October 1991 according to Wikipedia). However when they did interview Roy Hattersley I think you could hear the declaration for Yardley going on in the background, and the LD candidate John Hemming wrote on this forum a few years ago that that was probably the case.

Behind the scenes of the BBC's 1992 general election coverage, on Biteback three days later: In C-SPAN's video library there's footage of a 1992 BBC election night rehearsal. The mock exit poll is announced at 36:39. www.c-span.org/video/?25480-1/british-elections

Lewisham North byelection, 1957 - as covered by Pathe News.
Leslie Greene, the Independent Loyalist candidate, was the daughter of Ben Greene, a leading pre-war fascist. As Leslie Von Goetz she stood in 2001 for the Legalise Cannabis Alliance.
