Rossendale seems to not be aware Internet exists. You sound surprised. They still point at planes round there. And I see that the rogue (?) Declaration of Poll emanates from Bacup. My parents used to describe giving something a good feel with one's hands 'a Bacup look'. Mind, they were from Rawtenstall ....

My only visits to Rossendale were to Ski Rossendale as part of my 6th form outdoor pursuits course. This was in November/December 1992. I tested the net at the bottom of the slope on one occasion.

I don't understand. Will Staw is celebrating on Twitter that their candidate has won, with pics at the count and all...

He'd probably overdone the sarsaparilla in Fitzpatrick's.

He'd probably overdone the sarsaparilla in Fitzpatrick's. He is in fact a she, Helen Lockwood.

The confusion in Rossendale is probably due to the Conservative candidate's surname, which is double-barrelled on the declaration of result of poll (and second in the alphabetical list), but single-barrelled on the list of candidates (and third in the alphabetical list).

She is now "executive director of co-operatives and neighbourhoods".

He'd probably overdone the sarsaparilla in Fitzpatrick's. I went into Fitzpatrick's temperance bar for the first time this summer. I also tried sarsaparilla, after having heard it mentioned in numerous Westerns, for the first ever time. And the last. www.mrfitzpatricks.com/department/traditional_cordial_drinks/There were some interesting and maybe slightly eccentric characters. (That's not a selfie)

All seems solved in Rossendale. They uploaded a new "Declaration of Result of Poll". Not sure it's very legal, through.

I assume the returning officer read the right name out, and it's not as if the result is in dispute.

I used to work with a particularly gullible bloke, and when another one of our colleagues didn't show up to work one day, my colleagues convinced him that there had been an avalanche at Ski Rossendale and that there were people trapped under tonnes of plastic mesh.

Sarsparilla the drink is revolting, but the sweets are the bedrock of any normal North West childhood.

Rubbish. It is due to rank bloody carelessness.
