That leaflet looks to me as though some amateur within the Conservatives has woken up going "If the voters want race-hate, I can do race-hate! This is how you do race-hate!" Exactly. The impression I get is that it was written by someone who doesn't agree with a word of it, perhaps someone of the Matthew Parris school of Conservative thought. That's why it was so misjudged, it was probably written by someone who thought "this is a UKIP held ward, what can I write that would appeal to stupid kipper voters" and because they don't think that way themselves they got it wrong.

I presume so- after all,it's all voluntary. I'd be even more narked if they tried to take action! Mr Senior might know more in the context of Cheadle. Well, it would be logical, but logic doesn't always prevail in heat of a campaign. Stuart Penketh , who used to post here on the old site and who is a past Bury Conservative councillor posted that he refused to deliver the said leaflet

If it's anything like my past experiences, you can find out that your leaflets are printed with someone else's message before you're even told what the leaflet will contain. I'm astounded at how little respect some people in associations have for their activists. That leaflet is frankly a disagrace. I've never, ever seen any party put something like that through my door or into my hand to deliver. Sadly for the Conservatives in that ward, they deserve to lose if they are willing to put out something that is not only so utterly crass, but plays the man not the ball. And now that it's out in the national news, it reflects badly on thousands of Tory activists who would have no truck with it whatsoever. Could activists decline to deliver it without being bothered by the party? Well they are not slaves or employees. They can do or not do what the hell they like.

Complaining that a candidate from an opposing party doesn't live in the ward is par for the course in local elections. Dislike of outsiders can be much more parochial than on a national level. This sort of hypocrisy was give a stunning boost in the Sheppey byelection recently. The husband of one of the candidates spent lots of time telling anyone who would listen and tweeting it repeatedly, that the UKIP candidate didn't live in the ward... No - the UKIP candidate actually lived in the ward represented by the said husband who himself represents a ward he doesn't live in... Not true, Pimp. Check the ward boundary between Minster Cliffs and Sheerness East before misrepresenting the ward that the UKIP candidate actually lived in.

Living in the ward isnt really important. If you live in a neighbouring ward it can still often be really your turf.
I organise the campaigning in Thamesfield ward despite living in East Putney ward and don't feel like im batting away in doing so.

I organise the campaigning in Thamesfield ward despite living in East Putney ward and don't feel like im batting away in doing so. It depends of many things. Rural/urban, communities, the distance. If you live in the same town, it's usually good. But if you live on the other side of the district in a rural area, it might be complicated. For example, in Mansfield, all three candidates come from the proper town of Mansfield instead of Meden Vale or somewhere in the Warsop parish.

Rossendale seems to not be aware Internet exists. You sound surprised. They still point at planes round there.

Rossendale seems to not be aware Internet exists. An old college friend, and former Rossendale councillor, was told about 10 years ago by the Labour Group Leader that the internet was just a "passing fad". She was threatened with suspension from the Group merely for proposing an Amendment to the Budget to actually create a Council website. However here's the result as per the website: Gary Barnes (UKIP) 258 Mischa Charlton-Lockett (Con) 505 Ann McMahon (Lab) 390 Turnout 28.15% so actually a Con GAIN

WOW.
The result page is saying Labour won, the Declaration of Poll, Conservative. I fear it may end in courts.
