As i am on the 13:30 to dread Bankfurt, rather than the 09:55 I thought I was on, I just popped to Ninestiles to vote. I was the first voter at 09:45 am. Oh dear.

Would not be entirely surprised if the turnout ends up being under 10%. Given turnout was 11.96% last time it would take a miracle to get turnout above 10%. Don't know what the weather is like up there but it's miserable as hell in Cardiff (weather wise ) so that wont help either. Is the count tonight or tomorrow? If it's tonight it should be done by 1130 I'd have thought.

What's the lowest ever turnout?

What's the lowest ever turnout? For what? The lowest turnout in a formal UK election I have found was in the Lambeth Board of Guardians election in 1919, when one ward had a turnout of about 1%.

What's the lowest ever turnout? In another thread, someone talked of the Melrose by-election (a ward in Liverpool) on 11 December 1995. 5.9%. It was a gain for "Melrose Ward Labour" over Labour.

I seem to recall that some areas of blitz-hit cities had ludicrous turnouts in 1945, mainly because the wards hadn't been redrawn and some included areas that were now almost entirely flattened, although I presume in % terms of people actually left they would have still been normal.
Weather here in West Midlands is overcast but dry.

I hope the turnout is low enough to inspire us to finally put these ridiculous roles to permanent rest

Around 100 had voted at my polling station in Acocks Green (total electorate including postals 1,700) at 6pm. Its a station which normally has a reasonable turnout, but its probably a few more than I'd expected given some of the comments I've heard.

I wonder if the turnout in this election could be considered the base level of "political" interest - the people who will participate in any election however pointless

In the end I did cast a positive vote and gave Jones my first choice and Rowe my second choice. I was genuinely undecided up to the last second if I could actually bring myself to give UKIP my second vote.

According to the Guardian only four areas verified overnight (when I was told that all seven would have overnight verification). The councils that have produced a turnout number are:
Birmingham: 75,115 votes out of an electorate of 732,119 (10.26% turnout) Coventry: yet to verify Dudley: 27,381 votes out of an electorate of 240,186 (11.4% turnout) Sandwell: 22,372 votes out of an electorate of 228,287 (9.8% turnout) Solihull: yet to verify Walsall: 21,241 votes out of an electorate of 198,144 (10.72% turnout) Wolverhampton: yet to verify
That means that compared with the elections in November 2012, Birmingham is down 2.11%, Dudley is down 0.19%, Sandwell is down 3.1% and Walsall is down 1.53% (average drop of 1.73%) suggesting a turnout in Coventry of 8.43%, Solihull of 10.45% and Wolverhampton of 10.85% which would lead to an overall turnout of 10.26%

Wow, that was a pretty good guess then (just 0.06% out on the final turnout).
