By-election must take place within 35 working days, so 14th August is the last day it can be held. Middle of the school holidays, maybe 8-9% turnout?

Given the demographics, a tall order I would have thought.

First lets say no matter which side of the political divide you was Bob was well respected and liked. A loss to the region and worked really well with the police to try and get the right policies in place. As for UKIP, I do not see it, only so many jobs Bill Etheridge can do really but the turnout could be as low as 5%, or this one if it is at the prospective date I will need a postal vote for the first time ever.

I'm forgetting this covers the West Midlands county, not the West Midlands region.

however Kris say the turnout is so low as 5% then of course far more scope for a smaller party to get enough ?
however we should remind ourselves that Bob won easy last time and the UKIP was very low really.

Surely this should be under local by-elections, not parliamentary by-elections? PCCs don't sit in any parliament.

Given there is a fair chance that PCC's will be abolished (the documentary certainly won't have helped) this could be a brief sojourn for whoever wins

Well we made it clear Mike that if we are in power next year, they go.

Cllr. James Alexander (Lab, Holgate on City of York) has tweeted that there will not be a by-election as the Deputy has been sworn in as the new PCC I don't find that in any of his tweets. He says that West Midlands is the first place to have an unelected Police and Crime Commissioner, not that an election will not follow. The legislation is section 51 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011: www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2011/13/section/51

The obvious UKIP candidate would be Mike Rumble who fought the last PCC election as an independent but subsequently joined UKIP.

I only met him once and spoke to him very briefly. I was left with a fairly positive impression and other people in UKIP whose opinion I valued also had a high opinion of him. Politically he is sound but I have no way to judge how capable he would be of doing the job. Then again if Bob Jones could do it there is no reason why he shouldn't be able to.
