Well well, the Labour candidate is David Jamieson. He was MP for Plymouth Devonport 1992-2005, but originally comes from Solihull and was a Solihull councillor in 2010-14.

Isn't there outrage from all right thinking Labour Party supporters in the West Midlands that this was announced prior to the funeral of Bob Jones?

Yes, he's pretty competent. I almost expected him to become a peer and continue in office (Jeff Rooker style) in 2005 but there were family reasons for him moving back to Solihull IIRC. I thought he was a lot older actually.

I thought he was a lot older actually. He stood out amongst the CENTRO Labour group by a country mile. Many of them, I felt, were only there for the SRA's and free lunch. I remember savaging one of the dimmer ones once over the Uk-India air bilateral.

What on earth were you discussing that for?

What on earth were you discussing that for? Remember who owns part of the airport. However, we were discussing what requirement there would be for further connections to the airport. The councillor concerned wandered off into a flight of fancy about Birmingham-Amritsar flights and how they should be provided, by BA - of course, subsidised, of course and what additional facilities the airport needed to deal with this flight. The fact that there was no direct flight was, of course, all the evil Tories fault. I made my short speech about how the airport needed connections for workers at unsocial hours (because the airport routes are generally profitable, this can't be provided) and then proceeded to tell the idiot precisely how he was wrong.

Express and Star says the other shortlisted for Labour nomination were Yvonne Mosquito, Mohammed Nazir (Walsall Cllr) and Gurinder Singh Josan (former Sandwell Cllr)

Did you remind him that high-speed rail means that the direct flight from LHR to Amritsar is closer than ever

It's one of the conditions of the bilateral. The only direct is BHX-DEL-ATQ on Air India

I have wondered once or twice about direct flights to India. You've clarified something for me.
I'll continue flying to India via Doha. I like the new airport anyway.

I would probably consider flying via IST or FRA, the India bilaterals are designed to make sure that Air India has a certain advantage over its competitors, both international and domestic.

Aren't Air India supposed to be absolutely dire? No wonder they need a helping hand. They aren't that bad, but they are prone to delay.

And Cllr Les Jones for the Tories, I understand, which is an interesting choice.
