Looks a bit embarrassing, he can't even win a parish council seat what chance has he got for parliament!?!?! The winner (Berni Millam) was the LibDem parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion in 2010.

Littlehampton River ward was the local Labour stronghold in the area . They won both DC seats in 2003 , held 1 with Lib Dems taking the 2nd in 2007 and the Conservatives won both in 2011 . The 2011 TC elections had 2 Conservatives and an Independent elected with Labour in 2nd place . The 2 Conservative seats have both now gone to the Lib Dems

I think River (although overall deprived) voted Labour throughout the Blair years by default. The last Labour councillor in River only won his TC seat by 1 vote in 2007 by personal vote and stood-down in 2011. River is the ward of Liberal breakthroughs; Graham Westcott won the first Liberal seat on Littlehampton UDC in 1972 in River and Tony Scott won the first Arun-wide SDP seat in 1984 in River

I think it's highly relevant. Labour should be looking to come second at the GE and win any LA by-elections that come up within the towns at this stage in the cycle. A parish by-election in one of the most deprived wards, that was held by Labour 1995-2011, the PPC should be able to blow everyone else out of the water with their campaigning zeal. Highly embarrassing for Alan Butcher, I would say.

To be frank, in our electoral system, hell would freeze over before we won Bognor Regis & Littlehampton, so its entirely irrelevant. We have always done really badly here, and in its predecessor Arundel seat.

Turnout in Colindale is 27.8%, which is reasonable; turnout across Barnet on 22 May was about 40%, but Colindale ward had the lowest turnout in both 2006 and 2010.

Labour needs to have a majority in Colindale of at least 1,404 votes over the Tories to "win" the Hendon constituency in terms of this year's local elections.

We have always done really badly here, and in its predecessor Arundel seat. Not factoring in any boundary changes, Nick Gibb's majorities have been 7321 in 1997, 5643 in 2001, 7822 in 2005 and 13,063 in 2010, so if we can't get closer than over 5.5K votes at the height of Blair's popularity I suspect our prospects here are below zero.

Given a turnout of 28% I guess they'd struggle - equates to probably about 3000 votes in all so they'd need to be pulling in about two thirds of those and outpolling the Tories by more than three to one (the last part is likely enough)

Labour hold all three seats in Colindale.
Majority over 1,500 incidentally.
