This is ludicrous! It is a Thursday night - no postings for 5 days on today's byelections, and within the last few minutes we have had postings for election dates 2 and 3 weeks ahead!!

Very disappointed that the Canton Ward doesn't include the diesel depot! What is the world coming to? Something should be done!

Failed on Canton. A favourite refrain.

Is this the first week for a while that there will be a set of by elections and no UKIP candidate in any of them... I would have thought Charnwood was a given.

Explains why my websites have been having such lousy traffic this week. Really need another UKIP gain to pick things up...

CHARNWOOD Birstall Wanlip Simon SANSOME (Liberal Democrat) 508 (39.6%) Mary ALLEN (The Conservative Party Candidate) 419 (32.7%) Marilyn COWLES (Labour Party Candidate) 355 (27.7%) Excellent. Good way to bounce back from losing the Birstall county seat and finishing third in this ward in 2011.

That's pretty decent swing to Plaid in Cardiff - any ideas why?

That's pretty decent swing to Plaid in Cardiff - any ideas why? Partly down to the Green vote collapsing

Re the 2012 result in Canton, there can't have been that many places where TUSC and Socialist Labour opposed each other?

One interesting feature of the Cardiff result - The candidates were 3 women and 3 men. The men received pretty derisory votes, barely over 10% between them. The women, on the other hand, received almost 90%!

Looking back, both the Tory and LD votes in Canton have collapsed too - leaving it as a Lab-PC fight this time. Remember in 2012 it was an election which Labour were aiming to win outright to take control.
Its an interesting area - some friends of mine used to live there and its high in Welsh speakers and has something of a boho and multicultural feel, with a lot of young professionals, so a Labour-PC fight is what you might expect

I live in Canton ward, but sadly out of the area this week though so missed it. The leaflet count up to last weekend was about Plaid 6 Lab 3 Con 1 LD 0 Green 0, Plaid being mostly about apparent (but possibly untrue) lab plans to make the main shopping street one way. Also the ward does contain some of what loosely counts as pontcanna, and chapter arts centre, which do seem like their natural territory.
