For completeness' sake, it's also worth including which party is defending the seat - in multi-member wards or in cases of defection this is not always apparent from the previous results.

Interesting that UKIP haven't got a candidate in a ward formerly held by the BNP

Interesting that UKIP haven't got a candidate in a ward formerly held by the BNP I thought that as well. Difficult to see where the BNP vote has shifted to in that ward since 2008.

Can anyone explain the wide difference in Moray between the two SNP candidates results?

Either a) the second candidate was a sweeper or b) he wasn't from Buckie.

EAL, candidate 2 was a she! And given both are called McDonald, there's a distinct possibility of a familial relationship. The Council have taken down the Notice of Poll so I can't check addresses. But given the SNP only got 32% in 2007 in a ward where you need 25% to get a seat, my hope would be that Buckie SNP actually understand STV and did everything they could to get the existing councillor re-elected and try to ensure all the votes in the surplus transferred to L McDonald.
Now you might think that the 12.7 percentage points increase to a combined 45% would mean they were likely to get both elected in the end. But two independents taking 25% and 22% respectively was just unlucky!

Either a) the second candidate was a sweeper or b) he wasn't from Buckie. The second candidate was the wife of the SNP councillor which was elected, so, we can suppose she was from Buckie. EDIT: Proof

Anyone surprised? Thought Fabricated Hair was quite popular round his way, and him doing his rounds in the campaigning should've solidified his vote... I'm surprised. Good UKIP vote, so I'm cool for the night, would've been nice to have beaten Labour, but, meh.

I wonder why only those who support the 3rd placed party have commented on the Lichfield result!?
