2009 Results. Ireland lost a seat in 2009 and loses a further one this year: Fine Gael | 29.1% | +1.3% | 4seats | -1 | EPP | Fianna Fail | 24.1% | -5.4% | 3 seats | -1 | ALDE | Labour | 13.9% | +3.4% | 3 seats | +2 | S&D | Sinn Fein | 11.2% | +0.1% | 0 seats | -1 | GUE-NGL | M. Harkin (Ind) | 4.6% |
| 1 seat | nc | ALDE | Socialist | 2.7% | +1.4% | 1 seat | +1 | GUE-NGL |
The other lost seat was independant Kathy Sinott. This time round Sinn Fein will almost certainly be back, largely at Labour's expense and the Socialists are unlikely to hold on. 2014 Results: FG | 22.3% | -6.8% | 4 seats | nc | EPP | SF | 19.5% | +8.3% | 3 seats | +3 | EUL-NGL | FF | 22.3% | -1.8% | 1 seat | -2 | ALDE | Labour | 5.3% | -8.6% | 0 seats | -3 | S&D | Green | 4.9% | +3.0% | 0 seats | nc | EGP | SP | 1.8% | -0.9% | 0 seats | -1 | EUL-NGL | Independants | 19.8% | +8.3% | 3 seats | +2 | 1 ALDE* |
* Harkin sits with ALDE. Childers is an incumbent MEP who left the Labour party in 2013, but may maintain links with the Socialist and Democrat group? Pretty disastrous for Labour and good for Sinn Fein. FF vote held up surprisingly well but they struggled on transfers.

She has (re-)joined the S&D group.

She has (re-)joined the S&D group. She was forced out of S&D by Labour (more particularly the party hierarchy). Post-election, allowing her back in was no longer a problem as there are no longer any Labour MEPs to object.

Interesting news that Brian Crowley MEP, just re-elected for Fianna Fáil in South constituency, and the sole Fianna Fáil MEP, is going to leave the ALDE group and join the ECR.

The party have made it pretty clear that this is an individual and not a party decision.

And Brian Crowley has now been expelled from the Fianna Fáil European Parliamentary group. Of which he was, let's remember, the only member.

It takes somebody special to be expelled from a group of which they are the only member.

I think there's a "parliamentary party" that combines TDs & Senators with MEPs so Crowley could be expelled from that. Or I may be thinking of Fine Gael.
This at least means the Conservatives here don't get to join the "we don't like our sister party in Ireland" theme that just about everyone else is signed up to. That said there's historically a lot of common ground between the two parties and if it weren't for the local history they might well have ended up in the same group at some point in the past.
