The size of that Landward Caithness ward map is amazing compared to all the rest! Just a huge chunk of the highlands basically.

The largest ward in the UK is Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh. The brilliant thing is Google Maps refuses to display it, saying it's too large.

The number of first preference votes in the Landward Caithness ward of Highland Council on 3 May 2012 was:

Independent 2,590, SNP 550, Lab 302, Con 109 (Total 3,551)

In percentage terms this is

Independent 73%, SNP 15%, Lab 9%, Con 3%


Under new arrangements for the publication of information from electronic counts in Scotland, the Returning Officer published a detailed report of the first preferences by ballot box, aggregating smaller boxes to preserve the confidentiality of individual votes.

The SNP are strongest in Castletown and in Thrumster and Dunbeath, whilst Labour are strongest in Halkirk. The political parties are better organized with postal votes than the Independents.

This report enables us to calculate the overall result across ten groups of polling districts as follows:

Similarly, the Stalinist elements in TUSC (i.e. many of the RMT participants) wouldn't take too kindly to that either. I have no idea why the SWP are considered (and consider themselves) Trotskyist.
