Don't you find it amazing that the MP's force FPTP on the rest of us but in their own internal elections use transferable votes.
Not that it would have changed the result using FPTP so I guess it is just hypocrisy then.

It's a bit difficult to maintain that MPs in this parliament have 'forced' FPTP on the rest of us if you remember that we were given a referendum on whether we wanted to change to a system of transferable votes and we rather emphatically said 'no thank you'

Its a shit system - pity the only other choice was the only system I think worse of.

We should remember that Cameron would not be PM if FPTP had operated in his leadership election.

It is a good question ian - FPTP seems to be hardly used at all in "public" membership elections these days. I'm not sure whether this is because it looks bad or the balloting companies prefer not to use it..... but as Pete says, we had a chance to get rid of it, and it was lost. It would have been better to have had a different choice, but there you go...

I would like to think that next time we would put in our manifesto and if we win just implement it, you do not need a referendum to change a voting system.
I can dream ..

You certainly don't, but there is the slight problem of a large section of our own party who wouldn't want it anywhere near the manifesto.

Constitutional reform in this country is rare and beautiful, like an attractive Spaniard.

I think SV can actually be a worse monstrosity than FPTP. Try the first Torbay Mayoral. The problem is the having to guess who will make the final. At least the French System which it resembles being 2 separate rounds lets the voters know who is in the second round (although sometimes leaving 3 in)

I can agree but it is a worse one with its inflexibility.
