IIRC Emerson was originally selected as Chichester's Labour candidate for the 1997 GE, before he found the highways and byways of British Nationalism more alluring.

I've just read the Patria manifesto - FFS, it reads like a teenage Fascist's wet dream. It is actually quite hilarious if you neglect to remember it has been written by those purporting to be adults. The above mentioned Dr Emerson was a member of the Labour Party for over 20 years, having joined in 1981, though no mention is made of him ever being a Labour candidate. He joined the BNP in 2005 and was a candidate for them all several times. What exactly did he think he was supporting in the Labour Party over that period? www.patria-uk.org/manifesto/

"ethnic aliens", "voluntary repatriation", "failed and fraudulent asylum seekers", "anti-English quango"
If I can be permitted to sound like someone from the X-Factor;
"I have heard a lot of this sort of thing before, and you really aren't doing anything today that hasn't been done year after year after year. So I'm going to have to say "No""

"Patria" registered on 9 November, 2012, with leader Ian Johnson.
Their alternative ballot paper descriptions are:
*We Dare *Our People First And Always *Defend the Nation *Land and People
I would hazard a guess that they don't understand what the alternative ballot paper descriptions are there for because a candidate standing for "We Dare" or "Land and People" ain't gonna get many votes.

David Rouane (Lib Dem) gained the by-election in Northbourne ward on 15 August 2013, following the resignation of Andrew Bailey (Con), who moved out of the area.
The present by-election in All Saints ward is caused by the disqualification of Jane Murphy (Con) for non-attendance. She said, “It’s not that onerous being a member of the council, but unfortunately it was too much for me. There’s been a recession and you have to work a bit harder, so something had to go.”
The four candidates are Lib Dem, Lab, Con and No Description.

Here is some background to the two by-elections in the Lewes Bridge ward of Lewes Town Council in Lewes District (East Sussex).
The by-elections are caused by the resignations of two town councilors elected for the Green Party and Lib Dems, but both were sitting as Independents at the time of their resignations.
Lewes Town Council comprises 18 members elected from three wards – Lewes Bridge (6), Lewes Castle (6) and Lewes Priory (6).
The town wards are coterminous with the district wards of the same name.
The council strengths were: Elections on 3 May 2007: Lib Dem 15, Green Party 2, No Description 1 Elections on 5 May 2011: Lib Dem 11, Green Party 5, Independent 1, Non-Political Description 1 Make-up immediately prior to the two resignations: Lib Dem 9, Independent 6, Green Party 3 Current make-up: Lib Dem 9, Independent 4, Green Party 3, Vacant 2
The current town mayor is Independent and the deputy town mayor is Liberal Democrat.
The result of the election in Lewes Bridge on 3 May 2007 (6 seats) was: Lib Dem 759/697/677/565/523/523, No Description 509, Green Party 445/414/371/369/341/327, Socialist Labour Party 311, Con 299, Lab 226 Elected: Lib Dem 6
The result of the election in Lewes Bridge on 5 May 2011 (6 seats) was: Lib Dem 747/604/602/576/542/472, Green Party 653/507/493/476/458/433, Lab 348/346/322/312/286/266, Con 305, Socialist Labour Party 257, UKIP 161 Elected: Lib Dem 5, Green Party 1
The town council website indicates that four members have defected from their party and are now sitting as Independents, including the two members whose resignations have caused the by-elections: January 2012 – Matt Kent (Lewes Bridge) – formerly Green Party January 2012 – Jim Daly (Lewes Castle) – formerly Lib Dem December 2012 – Richard Rudkin (Lewes Priory) - formerly Green Party May 2013 – Petrina Kingham (Lewes Bridge) – formerly Lib Dem
The first of the present by-elections in Lewes Bridge ward is caused by the resignations of Matt Kent (Independent, elected as Green Party), because of the ever-increasing demands of his professional career, mixed with the demands of his very young family.
The second by-election is caused by the resignation of Petrina Kingham (Independent, elected as Lib Dem), who has provided the following explanation for her resignation: “Fifteen years ago I entered into a divorce agreement which gave my ex-husband a 45% share of our home in Lewes. The agreement has now come into force rather earlier than expected and our home has gone on the market. Due to escalating prices in the area and the agreed split in equity, I am unable either to buy my ex-husband’s share of the property or purchase an alternative property in the Lewes locality. As a future non-resident, I can therefore no longer continue to represent the Town. It seemed appropriate to resign now with the imminent by-election due on 17 October (because of the previous resignation of Matt Kent).”
The ten candidates are 2 Lib Dem, 2 Lab, 2 Green Party, 2 UKIP and 2 Con.
The result in the Lewes Bridge ward of Lewes District Council on 3 May 2007 (2 seats) was Lib Dem 687/532, No Description 402, The Seagulls Party 262, Green Party 249/246, Con 203/201, Lab 113 Elected: Lib Dem 2
The result in the Lewes Bridge ward of Lewes District Council on 5 May 2011 (2 seats) was Lib Dem 735/620, Green Party 576/424, Lab 324/318, Con 280/255 Elected: Lib Dem 2

I would hazard a guess that they don't understand what the alternative ballot paper descriptions are there for because a candidate standing for "We Dare" or "Land and People" ain't gonna get many votes. I guess that they think people will recognise the context of the words. "We Dare" is probably supposed to be a reference to the SAS. It might be more meaningful in the context of a particular leafleting campaign, which is what they might have chosen them for.

I do accept that premise.......but I do doubt that they would be the first party in the minds of voters on polling day if all a voter sees is "We Dare" on a ballot paper. It seems to be a case of an exceptionally minor micro-grouplet assuming, as so many of their kind do, that a couple of leaflets would be enough to fix their party in the mind of thousands of voters.

Barry Kirk, candidate for the Port Talbot Residents Association in Sandfields East, is perhaps better known in electoral circles as Captain Beany, former leader of the New Millennium Bean Party.

Did some telling at Westbourne this evening, from 4.30 till 6. Very slow - about 25 through in that time. Turnout was around 15% at 5pm. I'm told less than half the 130 postal votes sent out were returned. Tories were very disorganised, I felt. Very low-key, which might be confidence, I suppose. No sign of Patria at the polling station
