Thought I'd work out what the current boundary review might have looked like had North Lincolnshire been included in a region with the rest of Lincolnshire rather than Yorkshire. It actually works quite well. Brigg and Goole of course loses Goole thanks to it not being in Lincolnshire and becomes Brigg and Immingham; Sleaford and North Hykeham loses North Hykeham to Lincoln; Boston and Skegness loses Skegness to Louth and Horncastle (Louth and Skegness?). But otherwise all the current constituencies remain. edit: just noticed that the two eastern wards of Gainsborough (green) should be in Louth and Skegness (pink) to fit the quota

Which, of course, it should be.
Humberside ceased to be 27 years ago and was one of the most ill-conceived excuses for a county when it did exist.
Splitting up Lincolnshire into two different 'regions' was stupid, but not allowing the two portions to be reunited for so long after the reason for their separation in the first place became irrelevant is arguably even worse.
The seats created in the current review are likely to last at least two GEs, possibly even three, so I might actually be dead by the time Lincolnshire gets put back together.

Well, now that everything that's the right side of the Trent is now entirely in east-of-Trent seats, isn't all of Lincolnshire really all put together?

The bit of Notts to the east of the Trent north of Newark isn't in a Lincolnshire seat, because, as with Axholme, both have been in their respective counties pre-Conquest. So no...

An attempt to solve 'the Failsworth problem'

I presume you're aware that Littleborough and Saddleworth doesn't include the entirety of either of the eponymous places?

Anyway, as far as I can see the problem regarding Failsworth is the name of the constituency it's in, not the boundaries.

We should go back to the pre-1974 model of naming (as with all things boundary related tbh) and call it Manchester Failsworth.

I think it is a problem that a seat covering the centre of a city like Manchester includes an area which is actually outside the city, but yes it would be less problematic if it wasn't actually called 'Central'

It takes a ward split, but one option would be this: Manchester Blackley & Central 72056 (including the Miles Platting parts of Miles Platting & Newton Heath) Manchester Failsworth 75317 (including the Newton Heath parts of Miles Platting & Newton Heath) Oldham Central & Saddleworth 74144 Royton 72540 Heywood & Middleton 72969 Rochdale 71843 You can improve the Oldham seats slightly by putting the two Rochdale wards into different seats.

An alternate option, which adds an orphan ward and isn't particularly good on minimum change grounds but is quite cohesive is this: Heywood & Middleton 75735 Rochdale 71444 Littleborough & Saddleworth 72505 Oldham 74202 Chadderton & Moston 75202 Manchester Central 69881

What's wrong with this? Failsworth goes in with Oldham W, we recreate a (much improved) version of the Heywood and Royton seat that existed 1950-1983, Spotland is in Rochdale where it belongs, almost all of Middleton is contained within a single seat, and Manchester C is completely within the city boundary. No seat extends into more than two boroughs and there's not a ward split in sight.

I think I've drawn either that map myself or something very close to it as a serious Greater Manchester proposal.

We definitely need a football ground-related rule added to the governing legislation before the next Review.
