This is one of the best Lib Dem chances for a Combined Authority Mayor, at least at this point in this parliament.

Hull is a separate authority. My wife, being from East Riding tried explaining this to a friend who would wind her up about it.
TBF the lines are very blurred for anyone who doesn't know the official boundaries.

This is one of the best Lib Dem chances for a Combined Authority Mayor, at least at this point in this parliament. Will be interesting to see how the campaign goes, considering that in local elections Hull tends to be a Labour vs Lib Dem two party system whereas East Yorkshire is a Conservative vs Lib Dem two party system. A Lib Dem campaign in the area with meaningful Labour, Conservative, and even Reform challenges will be interesting to see. Definitely feels like potential for a four way race

The answer, apparently, is "claim it's a two-horse Lib Dem vs Labour race, so as to squeeze the Tory vote", judging by the comments of their new mayoral candidate Mike Ross. It's probably the most sensible route to take, regardless of the accuracy of the claim. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/politics/mike-ross-announced-as-lib-dem-candidate-for-hull-and-east-yorkshire-mayoralty-48721692023 local election results across the whole area: LD 34.7%, Lab 26.9%, Con 24.4% 2024 general election results across the whole area: Lab 37.7%, Con 26.2%, Rfm 21.9%, LD 7.8%, Grn 4.7%

The home county of the Three Wise Men from the Nativity. Prescot, Johnson & Davis? can you imagine. But no, it is known that three wise men came from the East Riding on a camel.

I suggest that local election results, while not infallible, may be a better guide to their prospects.
