There is, I submit, a difference between "unfortunate" combinations within one's own language (Emma Royds, Dick Head) and laughing at words that are rude in English but innocuous in the language which deploys them. I suppose other countries have their own examples in other languages. Cardinal Sin Lee Bum Suk

Bit late to the party, I know but - I have a work colleague whose surname is Bennett and whose parents in their wisdom gave him the first name of Gordon. He is known as Ed (his middle bame) but our merciless IT department used Gordon Bennett as his email address.
I also knew of a school teacher whose name was Teresa Green.

It's beginning to sound like those fake book titles in old joke books - "Tragedy on the cliff-top, by Eileen Dover"

Mods, given that the August 15th thread was locked for unknown reasons, shouldn’t this thread also be locked for lack of relevance and indeed quality of discussion??

Coming soon to BBC2: a documentary programme in which Katie Hopkins and Piers Morgan visit Oxford and speak to the Reverend Spooner about the repair and maintenance of the city’s traditional water craft. "Care of Punts"

It wasn't locked for unknown reasons... ...It was spammed to high heaven. It *had* to exceed my vote. So they spammed it to oblivion. Nuke it for all I care.

Let’s confine ourselves to discussion of next week’s council by-elections.

Let’s confine ourselves to discussion of next week’s council by-elections. Happy to do that now yes. These ones are boring for me. I can't get to these seats. I'm backing Greens in Kentish Town. I might see you there then? It's just on the Overground IIRC. I would like to meet up. If you're open to accepting me again. I apologise for some tone issues. It's not meant to be snarly. I'm just an angry cunt ultimately.

I’m still unable to do most everyday things because of the broken bone in my shoulder and when I am mended I will have a lot of work to catch up on. I won’t be doing any election work until mid September at the earliest

Of the three next week, one looks like a very easy Lib Dem hold, the other two look more interesting. EDIT: that appears to be the very first comment in this thread about the actual election! In the words of Willie Whitelaw, “I don’t blame anyone except, perhaps, all of us.”

You can always quote me btw!
West Lothian: Labour should take that;
Abbotts Langley: Looks Lib Demmy yes;
Cramlington: Reform will try pretty hard.
