North London bipedal elite independent’s day. BTW andrewteale , you missed two independents. Islington has five non-Labour Councillors. Of course, it'll be six tomorrow. It was a good write-up though. He didn't, because he was talking about the 2022 elections and none of them were elected as independents.

Elite in a bipedal sense, yes. I can also chew and walk gum at the same time, and my paper-tearing skills are unrivalled anywhere in the world. It should be the very minimum of any candidate that they can 'walk gum'. I think Trump may have the edge on your paper-tearing skills, though.

Speaking of independents, I noticed something. A lot of Stoecker leaflets discarded. None of mine on the ground. Some of hers just on steps. It's quite odd to me really. The Lib Dems came through yesterday. They are targeting Whitehall Park, IIRC. I extensively worked that area beforehand. I think it'll be close tonight.

I see that the Aberbargoed & Bargoed ward includes the village of Bedwellty which is tiny. Obviously it gave its name to an urban district which in turn gave its name to the parliamentary seat, but it still must be one of the smallest (if not the smallest) places to have provided a constituency name We've had this discussion a few times before I think And as then, my candidate would be Barkston Ash - though as with Bedwellty it was named from something else (the ancient Wapentake) rather than the hamlet of that name.

Perhaps she has delivered an awful lot more than you. In the 1999 Hill Rise by-election the Lib Dems claimed to have delivered 19 different leaflets to each household in the ward!! They must have had a lot of felt-tip pens!

Entertaining and informative, as usual with andrewteale 's previews. However, in the Aberbargoed and Bargoed preview, the following sentence about the recent general election result in the local Blaenau Gwent and Rhymney constituency was, in just one small detail, only dubiously accurate:In percentage terms, Smith's majority was certainly the highest in Wales, amounting to 40.72% of valid votes. However, numerically, the Plaid Cymru MPs in Ceredigion Preseli and Dwyfor Meirionnydd achieved even higher majorities, of 14,789 and 15,876 respectively. The explanation? The number of valid votes in each of the latter was over 40,000, while Blaenau Gwent and Rhymney was also the Welsh constituency with the lowest turnout figures (29,922 valid votes - the only Welsh constituency lower than 30,000 - amounting to only 42.65% of the total electorate). The low turnout may well, of course, have been causally linked to the non-appearance of the prospective Reform UK candidate on the ballot - which, as this will presumably have had little direct effect on the numerical size of Smith's majority over Plaid Cymru, will very plausibly have increased the size of Smith's majority expressed as a percentage of all valid votes cast. This does, of course, very much support the last part of the passage I have quoted.

Feel free to come to results. Ideally in person, armed with cava. It’s going to be glorious honestly.

I did it (canvassed a voter)! I dread to think what that means.

It’s going to be glorious honestly. I think we can all agree on that.

Haven't you got an election to fight today? On election day, the candidate's job is to "show face" outside the polling stations. Though, of course, in most cases voters may recognise the candidate from photographs on the leaflets or from having been canvassed by them. But with a candidate who hasn't canvassed and whose hand-written leaflets probably don't include an artist's impression ...
