The number of Reform candidates seems pretty notable for this week. I wonder whether this is part of a new strategy.

Ferndown appears to be in lieu of Cathy Lugg, which means the Conservatives are no longer represented on Ferndown Town Council. Reform candidate stood for Dorset Council, but not the town council, in the May elections. Ameysford was uncontested in May. It's a mostly working class area in an overall reasonably affluent town. I reckon it's the sort of place which might respond to a Reform candidate if he is working it hard.

It seems like we've had quite a few vacancies in Heanor & Loscoe recently. This is the fourth vacancy in the last few months. The Labour and Reform groupings are very antagonastic towards one another and meetings are proving very fractious and unpleasant. There are issues being argued about but I don't believe they are the key driver, although the town centre regeneration from the Future High Streets Fund has been a hot button issue in the town. The council was elected in 2023. This is the second Labour councillor to step down, both of whom said that pressure of time was the issue (both being borough councillors as well where there are no Reform councillors). I don't have reasons for why the two Reform councillors resigned but I imagine they didn't enjoy the experience and have become disillusioned despite Reform's upswing in popularity in Heanor. Will be interesting to see who wins the double header by-election in August given it will likely see a very small turnout.

The newness of Reform's membership will be a problem unless the party starts taking its grassroots seriously and starts training them. It's possible, as suggested above, that many of it's political virgins will simply become fed up with what elected office involves. That happened with UKIP. If the party is to mount a serious bottom-up (ooh) challenge it has to get more serious

Slough, Wexham Court (5). 5x Lab, 10x IndHmmm. I wonder if 5 Labour and 2 lots of Independents? Looking at the SOPN:
Five of the Independents have been proposed by (presumably the same) person, Ghalib Hussain. However, of one of those five (Altaf Hussain) appears to be the proposer for one of the Labour candidates.
Two of them remaining independents have proposed each other, and one of two is also the proposer for a third Independent.
One of the first set of five is Jaswinder Singh, and a candidate of that name stood in the GE, coming 10th.

The 5 vacancies to be filled on 25 July were caused by the resignations of 5 Labour parish councillors. 3 of them are seeking re-election for Labour, namely Muhammed Nasser Javed, Gurcharan Singh and Kawaljit Kaur.
