Slightly more seriously though, Newby&Scalby council is a bit anomolous, I've always felt that it should be within Scarborough Town. It's not a distinct seperate area like Eastfield, it's just continuous parts of urban Scarborough with no distinction on the ground. The 1963 boundaries map shows clear open space between Scarborough MB and Scalby UD, but by the 1930s the entire area had been built up contingously. To be fair, there's no sudden point of change if going from Scarborough to Eastfield via Osgodby either. It's a continuous built up area and the feeling of it just gradually changes. Osgodby almost merges into Eastfield - there's a pinch point where the two touch and on the ground it's obvious you've crossed open space from one to the other. But Scarborough doesn't merge into Osgodby, as you go south along Filey Road everything thins out and peters out to just a string of houses along one side of Filey Road. With Osgodby Hill now washed away the main route to Osgobdy is via the A165 bypass which is 1.5km of open countryside. Going north to Newby you have a "front" more than a kilometre wide of continuous development from Scarborough suburbs into more Scarborough suburbs.

Newby is definitely more of a "core" part of Scarborough indeed- I suppose my point is that as you go along Filey Road from Scarborough to Osgodby, the (fairly linear) continuous development doesn't change much. (Unless of course, as you say, you decide to use the bypass) I had always assumed that the divide between Scarborough and Osgodby was around the roundabout at the north end of the bypass- where the schools on each side of the road mean a break in the housing. I was quite surprised when I recently discovered that administratively, Scarborough actually reaches much further south (almost as far as Osgodby Lane) and Osgodby is much smaller than I had presumed it to be; the actual boundary between the two is not obvious at all.

It sort of "feels" like the crossing point is the open fields at Frank Cliff as you past the (southern) end of Cornelian Crescent, and that does sort of match as the boundary is when the houses start again at Knipe Point of infamous cliff slippage. After the parish review the Wheatcroft roundabout will end up the "end" of Scarborough Town going via the bypass as the Eastfield parish boundary will be adjusted to match the new road layout.

I'm most familiar with the Knipe Point area (grandparents having a holiday home there) which is probably why I think of all of Filey Road as being much the same. Hadn't been aware of that parish review but it makes sense. Found an article on it www.thisisthecoast.co.uk/news/local-news/scarborough-town-council-a-step-closer/With Newby and Scalby, I wonder how likely it is that if the council is indeed dissolved, the area might end up being included in the new Scarborough town council.
