Come next week- 24th October - in 2024/25 we will have exceeded the total number of local by elections (173) in the whole of the 2023/24 municipal year and we are not even half way through this one yet. There are already 59 more scheduled in the next 7 weeks. Perhaps the pipeline is looking like the numbers might ease off after that.

I continue to be surprised by the requirement to publish the NOEA the moment nominations close (how would that work if someone submitted literally at the last minute?) yet the SOPN can wait until the end of the next working day. Is there a reason for this imbalance or is just an accident?

In large swathes of England there are still regular local elections next May, so a lot of new vacancies might soon start to fall under the six-month rule in those council areas.

Only if they're county council seats. There's no six month rule for all districts, all London boroughs, all Mets bar Doncaster, all Scottish and Welsh unitaries and most English unitaries.

And there aren't so many county council seats anyway, in terms of numbers - even if not area covered - 2025 is the quietest year of the four year cycle.

Apply the Stoke Newington swing to Junction, and the Greens get very close. However, apply the Hillrise swing, and Labour hold the seat easily. I look forward to the Green campaign there. It's bordered by pretty strong Green areas in Tufnell Park and Camden's Highgate ward. Some of the parts immediately south of Haringey's Highgate ward on Highgate Hill could be good for the Lib Dems, actually. I know the ward well, much better than Hillrise.

I suspect you're correct that she has not yet resigned, or been disqualified, and therefore remains a councillor. Deputy Mayors cannot also be (non-parish) councillors, but as far as I can tell she is not yet Deputy Mayor. The Mayor has  submitted his notification of intention to appoint, and yesterday (23/10) the Police and Crime Committee of the London Assembly held a confirmation hearing. Presuming that the committee did not exercise its right to veto her appointment, the final step is for the Mayor to accept the recommendation of the committee and appoint her, at which point she will certainly cease to be a councillor if she does not resign earlier - but I'm not sure exactly when this will happen.
