SNP incumbent Mhairi Black, who has held this seat since 2015 is retiring at the election. Boundary changes mean the SNP have a majority of 11,023 (24%) over labour, a fairly weighty advantage for them even in central belt terms.
Jacqueline Cameron, who has been a councillor for Johnstone South and Elderslie since 2017 is defending for the nationalists, she is currently deputy leader of Renfrewshire council. Johanna Baxter, a UNISON and Scottish Labour official, is the main challenger and surely must be hopeful. Paisley has anchored parliamentary constituencies since 1832 and has never elected a tory so its not like anyone else is.

I received a glossy leaflet from one of my list Labour MSPs a couple of days ago. I have forgotten which one, because the leaflet has been re-cycled. It was a paid for delivery, because there was another leaflet inside it for something else, which is also in the re-cycle bin.

The Andersonian Library is once again trying to collect a full set of Scottish election leaflets if your recycling bin is getting full...

Just back after being away for 9 days on holiday. No election mail through my letterbox on my return.

I received my polling card yesterday, together with a (long) list of acceptable photo ID. The list is heavily weighted towards the over-60s.

There are, of course, drivers who do not have photo id One less now my granny has mercifully given up driving. But they’d have to be at least in their forties.

Some people are not eligible for even a provisional driving licence due to visual impairment or another medical condition.

Met 3 of my fellow Paisley branch Lib Dems today over in Mid Dunbartonshire. I have now "been volunteered" to attend the Paisley count.

Well I have a driving licence with photo id and am considerably older than 40. In any event all driving licences expire at the age of 75 and have to be renewed every three years. You get asked various questions about eyesight, etc.

At last, some leaflets have arrived, in among my Tesco club points and a brochure from Farmfoods. An unaddressed flyer and an addressed A5 from Labour, and an unaddressed A5 from Reform.

At least Reform actually put their own party's leader(s) - Tice and Farage, on their leaflet. Labour went with Sunak, Truss and Johnson on their flyer. I suspect the Tory leaflet, if/when it arrives, will feature Swinney and Sturgeon.
