Carol Monaghan, Glasgow North West's MP since 2015, defends a 9,728 (21%) vote notional majority for the SNP in this redrawn constituency. Monaghan, the SNP's education spokesperson in the commons, is on the socially conservative wing of her party and she backed Kate Forbes in the 2023 leadership election.
Her challenger is Labour's Patricia Ferguson, 1999-2016 MSP for Glasgow Maryhill & Springburn, in the vicinity of this seat. Before being defeated by the SNP's Bob Doris she had served in a variety of positions including as one of the inaugural deputy presiding officers of the Scottish Parliament as a junior minister during Jack McConnell's governments.
She may fancy her chances of heading to a different parliament, but this is notionally the SNP's safest seat in Glasgow, and the recent local by-election in Hillhead (admittedly a rather unique ward, and in the new Glasgow North seat) suggested that the swing away from the SNP may be rather less in Glasgow than in the rest of the country, meaning this could be an interesting contest

The combined Green/SNP vote was down by over 8% and Labour up by close to 10% - not much less than other recent contests. |

From what I recall I have never seen a Liberal or Lib Dem member proclaim himself leader immediately after the previous leader resigned. Have voting figures been published for Farage’s ‘election’? Unless Reform have reinstated the old Conservative Party approach of a leader ‘emerging’. This was last seen when Alec Douglas Home became leader despite the fact that the majority of Conservative MPs wanted Rab Butler. Even then, it only applied when the conservatives were in government. Reform have clearly applied the One Man One Vote principle and Farage has that vote. |

It's nothing at all like the Lib Dem listing or those for Labour, Conservative or Green parties. They were legitimately set up to deal with the trading arm of the parties and that's just as it should be. Reform UK and the Workers Party are limited companies in themselves. Who elected Farage as leader? Who deselected the previous candidate in Clacton? |

Vince Cable did when Menzies Campbell was defenestrated. Cable did not become leader until 10 years after Campbell was deposed. Clegg was elected. My memory is obviously better than yours. |
