Update: Just had the free mailing from Reform & Green Party Not acted very swiftly have they, considering people started receiving postal ballot papers on Saturday 17th. Only party I've not had one from is Labour. Organising a leaflet, a printer and - big problem - getting Royal Mail to approve it and condescend to having it delivered to them takes time. I have just done this. I dropped mine off in Leeds on 14th June, and had reports of them arriving with some people on the 15th. Asked about two dozen people whether they received my leaflet on the 20th, all confirmed that they had, almost all seem to have received it by the 18th. I was really impressed by the efficiency of Royal Mail in my neck of the woods. I felt really sorry for some of our candidates having to drive to Leeds though, including our Bridlington and the Wolds candidate. Think our Beverley and Holderness one had to drive to Sheffield, and our Leeds-based Richmond and Northallerton candidate was required to drive to Gateshead! If a non-driving Yorkshire Party candidate can sort this on his own then I'm not sure why Reform and the Greens should be any different. ps. I said Saturday was the 17th, it was of course actually the 15th.

I'd have thought Skipton & Ripon would be okay territory for the LDs? Clearly their activist base has taken a kicking in the last decade or so... I'd have that seat down as having a bit of something for everyone? The Lib Dems didn't field a candidate in 2017 in Skipton and Ripon, strangely.

Those deals changed not a single result. If you want a progressive alliance, do a deal with Labour, or don't bother, IMHO. The French seem to be pulling this off!

That is a good bit of evidence against clunky “naked” deals that treat voters as parcels. There is a largely unspoken “deal” between Labour and the LDs this time. Nobody has withdrawn a candidate but signals have been given and local parties given pretty firm nudges. Labour giving out a list of non-targets for general consumption (and LD leaflet use) is one such step. But the LDs have toned down the hubris and been far more practical this time - 2019 must be engraved on a few hearts. The uncomfortable bit for them must be surrendering areas of LD local government success (particularly with sharp relationships with Labour) to campaign in other pastures. We have some Portsmouth LDs here who have been helping in Chichester and presumably Winchester and Eastleigh. Anywhere else on the satnav?

The fact that the only party standing in H&K I've never had a leaflet from, in 2 years of living here, is Labour.... suggests this to be the case. The question I have is.... which one of the Tories and the Lib Dems felt it would be beneficial to stand an independent as a purely paper candidate. thestrayferret.co.uk/news/latest/editors-election-diary-hustings-harrogates-invisible-candidate-and-how-the-polls-are-lookingIs this fake/invisible candidate designed to shrink the Lib Dem margin?

I understand he's a "the end of the world is nigh - repent, ye sinners, or burn in the fiery pits of hell for all eternity" candidate. Which is fair enough, and he may well have a point, but what I really want to know is his view on fortnightly bin collections.
