Ed Davey here this morning. Is he going to perform one of the Shakespearian plays? Hmmm. What roles should he and other leading politicians play?

Perhaps Lear, but Starmer better suited because of the resentful ugly sisters round him! Jaques from 'As You Like It'! That is very him!

Round up a few senior Tories and they could put on Julius Caesar.

Round up a few senior Tories and they could put on Julius Caesar. So could Labour, especially if postulated on an all female cast.

I'm not sure that would be the correct Shakespearean metaphor as although Egeon , King of Syracuse does cause chaos by getting everyone to abandon ship when it isn't necessary and splitting his family, they are all reunited for a happy ending with all confusions resolved.

Surely that would require him to be twins, in which case one of him could have stayed in Normandy and the other have made it to ITV for the interview?

stb12 This is probably worth a poll (Con vs LD) as one of the main LD target seats in the region.

I've seen conflicting opinions on whether Nadhim Zahawi stepping down will help or hinder the Tories here, especially as their candidate will be new, compared to the already established Lib Dem candidate. The Lib Dems have doughtier campaigners in their number than the conservatives here, and I'm told have a strong ground game in this seat. Still, I think that a narrow Conservative hold is still the most likely outcome, owing to the strong rural areas in the constituency.
Con: 37.3 Lib Dem: 35.2 Reform: 12.4 Lab: 11.7 Green: 2.9 Others: 0.5

This is one of the seats where I (and islington) agree with you that the Liberal Democrats are likely to fall short, as votes for Labour emerge from low information voters, mainly in the towns, and quite possibly an increased vote for the Greens too. But the Liberals are trying very hard to attract tactical votes, and should come close.

I must admit I have this down as a LD gain. It's one of a rather small number of seats in the region that they can aspire to win, they are clearly going all-out for it, and I suspect their ground game will win out in the end. But, again, it on paper looks like a Tory stronghold, and a narrow Conservative retention would hardly be a huge shock either.

I think the Conservatives might regret their decision to pick an MP from Greater Manchester over a local candidate. I can see a very narrow Lib Dem gain.

Terrific example of a "parachute" going wrong.

Terrific example of a "parachute" going wrong. It was probably won before the parachute to be honest, but the parachute certainly didn't help.
