A real low: Johnny Mercer's wife calling the police, with the presence and support of the Veterans' Minister, on Veterans having a protest about his refusing to meet them over a campaign to do with illness caused by Service. Apparently, the innocuous banners were threatening.

Mercer is such a knob these days. He always was and I have consistently opposed him here and on ConservativeHome since the day of his appointment. I fear he is a complete wanker just like Tugendhat.

Between the Mercers' actions here and the Tory candidate's accusations toward the LD candidate in Torbay regarding the latter's disability, the Conservative implosion in Devon feels particularly pronounced.

Hope so - Torbay might be able to win, they won before (with a good local MP, he was a decent progressive LibDem)

Pretty poor behaviour by Johnny Mercer's wife. Has anyone thought of insinuating a denunciation of her on the Plymouth Herald online comments section?

I never used to mind Mercer that much, but his recent antics have been inexcusable. I hope he can pull himself together now that he has exited public life.

Mercer's problem is his views on Bloody Sunday prosecutions. He's just an obnoxious prat. He talks like he has a rod up his arse - you're not my sergeant, pal. If anything, I actually think Mercer probably puts people off joining the army - if you're boss is going to be some Tory twat like that, maybe give the forces a miss.

The writing was on the wall from the local elections which were pretty much a tour de force for Labour. If Mercer had kept his cool he could have made a bit of capital out of the combat/lack of combat record of his Labour opponent, but he greatly overplayed his hand, and indeed looked a complete prat (though not quite for the first time).
