Is this going to be Jacob Rees Mogg's seat?

Has the Labour candidate been confirmed yet. I saw an article that Dan Norris the current Greater Bristol 'West of England' Mayor and of course former MP for the area when it was 'Wansdyke' 1997-2010 is considering a return. What would the record for the longest gap between being elected be? And are there any other 2010/15 - or even before (2017 or 19 would be less surprising) retreads?

Matthew Green standing for the Lib Dems in South Shropshire, last in parliament 2005

Douglas Alexander, Andrew George and Tessa Munt all lost in 2015 and are standing in the next election.

Gordon Birtwistle is contesting Burnley (he was MP 2010-2015) again. Apart from 2001, he has stood in Burnley for the LDs in every election since 1992.

Unlike some examples mentioned above though Mr Birtwistle has no realistic chance of returning to Parliament.

The all-time record I think is William Allen, Liberal MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme 1892-1900. After a 31-year gap he was elected as a National candidate in Burslem and took the Liberal National whip in the Commons. He also contested Burslem in 1924 as a Constitutionalist.

Mark Williams (2005-17) and Alan Reid (2001-15) are also going again for us in Ceredigion, and Argyll, Bute & South Lochaber respectively.

Almost certainly the strongest chess playing MP of modern times.

Unlike some examples mentioned above though Mr Birtwistle has no realistic chance of returning to Parliament. I was at the count in 1985 County Council elections when Gordon Birtwistle was sure he'd won Burnley West Division by 6 votes but, after a bundle check, it was found he'd been given 100 of Cllr John Entwistle's votes and he'd lost by 194. The curse of the twistles. John was a lovely bloke who'd led Burnley Council, Chaired Lancashire County Council, was Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire and was a devout Catholic who, with his wife, Kathleen, was very kind to me as a young man.

If mistakes like this were to happen with regularity, it could signal the town’s end.

There's a sliding doors moment where he held Burnley, and still does.

In more modern times there was also Paul Tyler who represented Bodmin in 1974 and had an 18-year gap until returning in 1992.

Where the hell is Hanham? Surely one of the more obscure constituency nomenclatures?
