we used to have them here IIRC Doesn't appear so. There have been rumours they are coming to the UK, but nothing has ever come of it. The story has just been floated again.
If you want pancakses in London My Old Dutch has managed to survive since 1958! All i can say is Flippin' 'Eck.
He meant 7/11 I'm pretty sure. We've never had IHOP or Applebees. We've not had Popeyes either so far. Maybe Panera and Olive Garden soon!

Glasgow has several branches of Stack and Still which I highly recommend for pancakes. Sadly their Soho branch seems to have closed

There is a Popeyes shop in Croydon which opened a few months ago. I tried it once, and it seemed just very American and salty. I get the feeling it won’t be successful in the long term.

A quick Google notes that 7/11 were originally American but have been a Japanese company for a long time.
Mrs DW had a Carrefour near her as a kid. I did think Eastleigh was far south but that threw me.

A Popeyes has opened in Richmond too, and I think there are quite a lot of them. My wife tried it & said it was awful.

Not terrific value - if I recall correctly, 'Tortilla' was a little dearer - but better in quality and with bigger portions. Based on the two companies' respective branches in Southampton.

We have a Wendy's in London. Just an American chain muscling in. I like Wendy's. The Baconator is a wonderful burger everyone must try at least once. Wendy's has been here for decades, I remember the first ones appearing when I was a very young man. Perhaps they've been absent a while in between though Wendy's left the UK c2000 but returned in 2021 and have been steadily expanding since. Quite a few US chains have recently entered or re-entered the UK market with various success rates. [Popeyes] I don't think that's true I stand corrected about that actually. Never seen one in Central London. There's one at Waterloo but that seems to be it for Zone 1. Otherwise a good number in the suburbs. I tried the one in Romford shortly after it opened. The chicken didn't taste great and the restaurant was confused and chaotic - in particular table service and self-service drinks machines don't really work together, especially when you're a solo customer and it's a bit busy.

I didn’t realise that about Wendy’s, probably because there doesn’t seem to be any in Scotland yet

The odd one is Tim Horton's, though yes it's Canadian. They've opened many in the UK recently but their London presence is a single one on a retail/industrial park in Park Royal.
I've only tried the one in the centre of Birmingham and wasn't too impressed (though it was conveniently located for breakfasts near conference). In particular the seating area is upstairs with a tight staircase and more often than not they've failed to include the cardboard holders for coffee despite it being very hot to carry up.

IHOP won't be coming here soon. We don't eat those pancakes, really. The thick, American-style pancake stacks. They are good though - try them. I reckon IHOP would do well. Arby's would do well here too. The yassification of central London continuing? Better than all those sweet shops.

A Denny’s opened in Glasgow around 2019 time, however the reviews were generally pretty terrible and it never reopened after the first Covid lockdown

It was opened just next to Braehead which is technically in Renfrew but is basically like a Glasgow shopping centre. I tried it once and I’m not one to leave bad reviews on anything but it definitely wasn’t great, nothing like I remember Denny’s being in the US either albeit I’ve not been there since 2011

On Reddit I got negged into submission for saying that I didn't know the UK had drive-throughs.
In my head this is a distinctly American thing, and I've never seen nor frequented one.
People didn't believe my story, but it's true.

A Denny’s opened in Glasgow around 2019 time, however the reviews were generally pretty terrible and it never reopened after the first Covid lockdown The big flop was Chick-fil-A who opened one in Reading in October 2019 and a second in some Scottish holiday complex. The Reading one attracted huge protests and within eight days the shopping centre announced the lease wouldn't be renewed beyond six months. Chick-fil-A also announced a shift in its donation policies around this time. They're going to try again next year with a launch of five so we'll see how they go. But I suspect some of their policies will still be problematic. In particular the refusal to open on Sundays may be off-putting to centres (and licensing) if it's going to result in a gap in provision on that day.

People didn't believe my story, but it's true. They've been around for ages lol. I hate the 'drive thru' writing. It just cheapens the experience somewhat. Went to drive-through KFC around 2008.
