Who's the Labour candidate Rajesh Agrawal, who's a deputy mayor of London for business. (There are loads of "deputy mayors".) I guess it's not surprising that they went for someone who had nothing to do with the local party in Leicester.

She's being endorsed by Galloway's Wankers Party of Britain, so whilst she'll be smashed, she might hold her deposit, depending on who else stands. Amazed given the talk about this seat that the Tories haven't selected here.

Amazed given the talk about this seat that the Tories haven't selected here. I wonder why that is. They could just re-run their 2019 candidate couldn't they, or one of the many Councillors they now have in this seat.

The 2019 candidate - who won nearly 40% of the vote in that election - is now a Conservative Councillor in the seat.

Interesting that they didn't opt for one of the Councillors elected last year. The pitch here is interesting too - suspect that the dynamics in Leicester East will be very different to what we see nationally. Conservatives won the vote here in the locals last year, since then any post-Gaza blow back will hit Labour among the Muslim community.

Another unlooked for bonus in this increasingly bonkers election.

Rivalling Ashfield I think for god knows what will happen here. There are Hindu candidates for Conservative and Labour, but Hindus remain a minority of the constituency. Vaz has a lot of local connections and will get a significant vote. I suspect there will be a Gaza candidate here from the large muslim community. Then there's Claudia Webbe whose endorsement by the Workers Party might boost her vote into 4 figures. And of course there will be Liberal Democrat and Green candidates who will probably be irrelevant, but you hever know.
I still expect Labour to win, but it will be on significantly less than 50% of the vote.

Labour's challenge in Leicester East is that things have probably got a bit worse since the locals, when the Party could count on a very solid vote from the predominantly Muslim areas in the South of the seat.
That vote won't be as solid this time. The challenge for the Conservatives is that there will be a lot of low propensity voters who the national campaign will draw out, I suspect Vaz also takes away from the anti-Labour tally as well.
It will be interesting to see just how much pull the Vaz name still has with much of his old political machine now defunct.

I always said he would betray his party. It's taken him longer than I expected though, I admit

That's done it. I'm buying my washing machines from someone else in future. I used my new washing machine successfully for the first time today. It was installed yesterday, two weeks (and two delays) after it should have arrived. It’s a Bosch from John Lewis. But I’m not sure what dialectical or theological entanglement of thought can make a connection between that and Keith Vaz.

I keep thinking that Keith Vaz is an elderly has-been in bad health whose career ended a long time ago… and that therefore he is likely to get only a relatively small share of the votes. If he gets more than about 2 or 3 thousand, there would have to be local factors or bases of support that I just don’t know about.
