It took two 'journalists' as well to write that non-story. Whether he is a member of the party or not, what does it matter? Is the BBC under some strange impression that only party members are allowed to campaign for that party in an election?

It tastes like an attempted "gotcha" with those flash photos and overheard doorstep quote. Not the Beeb's finest moment.

The circumstances are nowhere nearly as Tory favourable as Uxbridge, but I suspect that sympathy for Peter Bone will exceed sympathy for any of the other outgoing Tory MPs and with his successor having his approval the Tory vote may hold up better than expected Sympathy for Peter Bone? Yes Personally I dont share it, but I comprehend it. The fact that many people active in politics do not comprehend it is a small part of our wider societal problem colloquially known as the culture wars. This, on a minescule scale, is the Trump issue.

How many candidates will end up standing in this by election? We already know of 6.

Savage Gunn is quite a violent surname. Was she in an armed response unit when she was a police officer?

Neither Pete nor I would disagree that the Tory Government is woeful but that is not what is at play here. Almost the opposite. It is a measure of the success of the long march through the institutions, that the higher ranks of the Police are now dominated by those who can spout the accepted dogma with greater or lesser levels of sincerity. Those who go on to politics are almost invariably drawn not from the beat but from the upper floors of the HQ. Further to this, their mission as with their colleagues in HR, has been to rid the Police of those who practice wrong think and replace them with uniformity of thought that looks more diverse.

Honestly it's most damning not for the peelers nor for the Tories but for what passes as Left (/ducks, hides)

Given the attention this one has received compared to Kingswood I expect the candidate total in this by-election to be at least double that of Kingswood's, especially with the latter seat already confirmed as being abolished come this year's general election.

Alex Merola has been selected here for Britain First.
His X/Twitter bio reads:
"Italian blood, English heart. Nationalist. Distributionist. Orthodox Christianity ☦️. Proud Britain First candidate in Wellingborough by-election"
The emoji "☦️" is the Orthodox Cross, if it doesn't appear on your screen.

I hadn't thought Orthodox Christianity would have much of a following in Italy (Wikipedia tells me there are almost a million adherents in Italy but I should imagine these are primarily migrants from Romania and the like rather than those of 'Italian blood')

Why do these racist outfits have so many Johnny Foreigners?
"Distributionist". In other words, left-wing

Also churchy Anglicans who dislike Catholics and women priests tend to end up heading towards Byzantium. * This road ends up with Neo-Hellenism and the thing called Bronze Age Pervert.
