There is due to be a Recall Petition following the suspension of Peter Bone in the last few minutes.

Seems inevitable that the petition will reach threshold (I know I posted otherwise when report first came out, but total withdrawal of Tory support for him makes it inevitable now imo) Will he stand down quickly and retain a little more dignity, as Chris Pincher did?

I believe the Returning Officer has 2 weeks to make the arrangements for the petition -which would imply that voters will have 6 weeks from 8th November to sign. That suggests the petition closes on 20th December - though Parliament goes into Recess on 19th December and does not return until 8th January. If so, the earliest date for any by election appears to be 15th February - though it could be a fair bit later.

This poses the question of what would happen in the six week period extended over Christmas.

Peter Bone loves being an MP, he will hold on as long as he can. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to run again, as he believes he is well-known and well-liked, although I suspect he would have to do it as an Independent.

This also makes me wonder-will this prompt his long-time friend and parliamentary neighbour Phillip Hollobone to stand down at the next election? They regularly submitted Private Members' Bills as a pair.

If I were a Tory candidate, I'd pledge to reopen the Rushden railway link. The old station is beautiful but it's a big town not to have a railway link (possibly the largest).

This isn't the US or the Republic of Ireland, so the locally elected MP really can't make that sort of promise, unless he holds the balance.

I totally oppose the whole recall system and would abolish it. Elections are the method. He was elected and must serve until he dies, resigns, retires or is defeated. We are within a year of the next GE. Why the fuss? What are the alledged charges anyway? If criminal charge him and convict him and then he is out. This hole and corner weasel-worded accusations by tired Tims, losers and general wankers have no effect on me. Good MP brought low by political machinations with nothing behind them at all This is poppycock politics for wimps and the usual suspect alt.woke like the non-memeber for Preston who is all of a lather over this, Woden help us.

They could campaign to reopen it, but not much more. And why should it only be the Conservative candidate, why not the Labour one too?

The Tories might have a chance of holding this if they do that. It's a growing constituency so it could happen one day.

I assume some promises for the byelection? The Tories might have a chance of holding this if they do that. It's a growing constituency so it could happen one day. I have no idea what you are referring to, which probably reveals my ignorance. I know Kevin McNamara's daughter, we met when we were pro-life left-wing Labour members at NUS conferences. We used to worry, now we delight in the confusion.

The Kingston upon Hull North by-election of 27 January 1966 was held after the death of Labour Member of Parliament (MP) Henry Solomons on 7 November 1965. The seat was retained with an increased majority by Kevin McNamara of the Labour Party. This has been attributed to the announcement of the construction of the Humber Bridge by the government during the campaign.

Promised by Barbara Castle during the 1966 by election.
I went to Hull Uni at the same time as Kevin's son Brendan. Also chaired a meeting of 1987 Hull North General election candidates with Kevin present of course. That was a formative experience.

Talking of the member for Preston, a friend had cause to ask him for some help with the DWP in the summer. He didn't receive even an acknowledgement. He then rang the MPs office and was told that Hendrick, the MP, was seven weeks behind in his correspondence with constituents.
