Haringey, South Tottenham: Con 15, Lab 57, LD 10, GP 18. Haringey, White Hart Lane: Con 9, Lab 60, LD 21,GP 10. These are two wards I once knew very well- my mother in law lived in ST for many years before moving to WHL. Not sure that helps me very much for this. Was she on a free transfer? Were you her agent?

No on both counts, but her flat was literally a matter of yards from the ground - the old Spurs ground, of course. So pretty noisy on match days. I only once ever went to a match there though- against Man City. They had an interesting new player to see- one Denis Law.

I looked up Law to check dates and the spelling of his name (only one n in Denis, which I corrected). It must have been 1960, I guess. I also noticed that he has mixed dementia -the same combination as Eileen's diagnosis, and he's a couple of year's younger than us.

And yes I should realise the football ground is nowhere near White Hart Lane, so probably wouldn't be in the ward, however the boundaries were drawn at different times. Still where she is now, or where are any ashes remaining would almost certainly be, would be within the ward!

Yup time marches on. ST was once a Tory prospect and has become more Labour over time.
WHL was once the strongest Labour ward became a Tory prospect but has gone back to being strongly Labour.
The Conservatives came very close to winning Seven Sisters at a by-election in 2009, when that ward included the Hasidic Jewish area which is now in South Tottenham. That would have been the first Conservative win in the Tottenham constituency since 1990 when they held one of the seats in White Hart Lane. That had been the fief of Peter Murphy who had done so well against Berie Grant in 1997 Yes, but the Seven Sisters by election was held in the very 'special' circumstances of the Baby P verdict.
Peter Murphy, succeeded by not one, but two other Murphys/Murphies didn't even live in Haringey, but had an accommodation address.

Were the Murphys brothers, to go with the seven sisters? They were not related , and Sheila Murphie even less so. She managed about a year before resigning to go travelling round the world and then Phil took over.
The story about Sheila was that the Tories were desperate to find another Murphy/Murphie and weren't too fussy about who they were and whether they were likely to be around very long.

thanks for the suggestion Andrew. Here goes - and if I am penalised so be it. The Jewish holiday referred to in Andrew's Previews isn't one even I am that familiar with, unlike its immediate predecessors.
