There are currently 15 by-elections to be held during October.
- 2 by-elections on 4 October (a Wednesday) - 2 on 5 October - 2 on 12 October - 4 on 19 October - 5 on 26 October
4 by-elections are for district councils, 3 last contested in May and 1 in 2022 4 are for London Borough Councils, all last contested in 2022 4 are for county councils, all last contested in 2021 2 are for unitary authorities, 1 last contested in May and 1 in 2021 1 is for a metropolitan borough, last contested in May
Labour defend 6 seats, 1 following the death of the previous councillor and 5 a resignation Conservatives defend 3 seats, 2 following the death of the previous councillor and 1 a resignation Greens defend 2 seats, both following a resignation Liberal Democrats defend 1 seat following the death of the previous councillor People Against Bureaucracy defend 1 seat following a resignation Residents for Guildford and Villages defend 1 seat following a resignation Independent for Herefordshire defend 1 seat following the death of the previous councillor
With all SOPNs having been published, there is a full slate of 15 candidates for the Conservatives, 14 Labour and Liberal Democrats, 10 Greens, 2 Reform UK and 2 TUSC along with 1 apiece for UKIP, Socialist Party GB, People Against Bureaucracy, Coventry Citizens and Residents for Guildford and Villages together with 3 Independents contesting 2 elections – a total of 65 candidates for 15 seats.
Predictions on this thread at 9.00am on the day of the election.

These are two wards I once knew very well- my mother in law lived in ST for many years before moving to WHL. Not sure that helps me very much for this.

ST was once a Tory prospect and has become more Labour over time.
WHL was once the strongest Labour ward became a Tory prospect but has gone back to being strongly Labour.

WHL was once the strongest Labour ward became a Tory prospect but has gone back to being strongly Labour.
The Conservatives came very close to winning Seven Sisters at a by-election in 2009, when that ward included the Hasidic Jewish area which is now in South Tottenham. That would have been the first Conservative win in the Tottenham constituency since 1990 when they held one of the seats in White Hart Lane. That had been the fief of Peter Murphy who had done so well against Berie Grant in 1997

Indeed mainly pre 1970.
