What’s the background to the Tamworth resignation? And who’s the Independent? The councillor resigning has only just been elected and that often doesn’t end well for the incumbent’s party.

In the context of that ward and the previous election results I wouldn't be entirely surprised to learn he was not expecting to be elected and found out he could not actually spare the time. The Tamworth Conservatives have been split, partly over fall-out from their previous MP (Michelle Cook was from the anti-Pincher faction). Her husband Daniel Cook was council leader from December 2009 to February 2021. PS: Local gossip blog here debunkingtamworth.com

I bet the good voters of Amington are going to feel a lot of love over the coming weeks - and that's before we get to the Donna Summers gag. Whoever wins that will splash it all over their by-election leaflets.
Assuming that Lee Rotherham in Vauxhall is @drbrexit - a well-known think-tanker and ex vote-Leave staffer, I'm sure Vauxhall will be a great place to lead on how popular Brexit is in London...

In the case of the South Tottenham contest, I think I'm almost certainly correct in saying that 3 of the 4 candidates are Jewish. The exception being that of the Green Party. The Conservative candidate may well be part of the strictly-Orthodox community but of course he may not be alone in that.

Lee Rotherham is also a former Tory candidate in Rotherham (2005 GE) no less.

Re the Vauxhall ward election, the rare presence of a SPGB candidate is relatively unsurprising since their national HQ is in the constituency, in Clapham High Street where it is neighboured by trendy & upmarket eateries including a long-established tapas bar.

The councillor resigning has only just been elected and that often doesn’t end well for the incumbent’s party. and also all the non-Conservative candidates except of course for Labour appear to be right-wing & would surely, inasmuch as they have any impact at all, attract more former Tory than former Labour votes.

Apparently so, but it is the name coincidence in the latter that amuses.
The 2001 result was of course notable for the anti-Woodward backlash, but the Tory share still went down slightly.

Given that the candidate gives a home address in Epping Forest district, I wonder if he qualifies as he works for the party at that address?

I remember Daniel Lambert from when he was SPGB candidate in Brixton Hill in 2013. His answer to every question at the hustings meeting was to smash capitalism.
