I'm not watching, was the speech the usual by election boilerplate of 'this is a message to the government blah blah'? No, more about all the people suffering in Warburton's absence.

Never mind, EL. In Uxbridge at least your second preference managed to edge it. Excuse me? You're going to have to explain that one to me I'm afraid.....

10.2% is the biggest ever share of the vote for the Green Party in any parliamentary by-election. The previous highest was 9.7% in Norwich North in 2008, where even then they were only in 5th place behind UKIP.

Very selective reporting from the BBC Politics feed
"The Lib Dems have won the Somerton and Frome seat, it has just been announced.
The final count was:
21,187 for Sarah Dyke of the Lib Dems 10,179 for Faye Purbrick of the Conservative Party 1,009 for Labour's Neil Guild"
Including fourth place but not third.

As for nasty, well it was a lot nicer than you deserved. But if I said what I actually meant, I'd be banned in pretty short order, so....

There really is no pleasing some people. Time for bed.

Sir John Curtice was asking himself to check if Labour has ever come 5th before in a parliamentary by-election. Yes, in Henley 2008. I can’t find him on Twitter to tell him.

11k margin - that makes holding it at the general election a decent prospect. Well done all involved. Sean Dromgoole resigned from Labour for avoiding that thrashing - a poisoned chalice. There are major changes in Somerset & this constituency is pretty much split into 2, Sarah will need to decide which to apply to stand in.

She lives there and no Labour or Green problems in that one.

I thought the turnout would be a bit higher here. The percentages were roughly what I expected, but I thought that would equate to a Lib Dem majority nearer 15,000
The Lib Dem’s got less actual votes than they did in Tiverton and Honiton last year. ( as of course did the Tories)
