Reports tonight that Nadine Dorries is to be elevated to the Lords after all. Many rumours for many weeks.

I'd say Labour have an outside chance. Which would effectively end the Truss premiership before it's even begun.

With rumours Nigel Adams in Shelby also gets elevated to the Lords, I expect Labour and Lib Dems to come to an informal agreement that Labour fights shelby and Lib dems fight Mid Bedfordshire. Historically shelby's predecessor had voted Labour between 1997 - 2010 where Mid Bedfordshire seems to be a seat Lib dems could perhaps capitalise more on.

I think you must mean Selby.

I do mean Selby, for some reason I thought it had an H in it.

You seem to have a peculiar understanding of what happens when a government’s majority in the House of Commons is reduced from a large number to a large number minus 2. Boris Johnson’s first electoral outcome was losing the Brecon and Radnor by-election. As we all know, this inevitably meant that Jo Swinson was Britain’s next prime minister, and Boris Johnson’s premiership was effectively ended.

Still far from confirmed this is going to take place, not least because one possibility is Dorries only getting her peerage in a *Dissolution* Honours list.

If this is held off until a dissolution, and Dorries doesn't get one, what's the chance of her spilling some beans in revenge?
I wondered initially whether this was going to be a Rooker or Morgan style appointment- gets ennobled and then back as a minister instantly.

I would be flabbergasted if Labour won a Mid Bedfordshire by-election. The Lib Dems would have more chance.

Revenge for what? A delay to a guaranteed life peerage of 2 years? The chance of a backbench MP's salary until then?

By informal, do you mean that both put up candidates but one in each does bugger-all in the campaign?
