There are now, but not in the late 1950's. (Sorry, yes I am that old!)
The storyline coincided with/flowed on immediately after a row in our village.
I really think it not necessary for you to apologise for being a child in the late 50's! I was at university in the late 50's! I'm sure you are right to suggest a newsworthy row from your - then Berkshire- village at the time of the Archers story may well be its source, but I am pretty sure such rows were not that uncommon at the time, which was after all a time for a surge in house building, among other things. In Another Place there was a thread on old road videos, and one of them was about lorries going through Berkshire villages before the M4 was built, and I particularly remember one segment with a trailer truck attempting a multiple point maneuver to squeeze around a corner somewhere, possibly taking out somebody's gate.

I may have misread or misinterpreted the statement of nominations in Dodderhill, but it looked as if the Green candidate lives in one of the main villages within the ward and the other two in Droitwich.

No, you are right. The Green candidate was the only one who lived in the ward. My initial stab at a prediction was Con 55, Green 35, LD 10, but I then changed my mind and put the Lib Dems into second- stupid me!

Amazingly in the Blair years Labour won a by-election in the larger County Council division including the ward. Isn’t it still Labour? Robert Evans’ seat?

Robert Evans represents Stanwell and Stanwell Moor division on Surrey County Council. In 1995 Ian French won the Laleham county division for Labour with 17% swing. The seat returned to the Tories in 1997.

Played Ombersley on Saturday (at home, not there). Got 22. Didn't mention the by-election, not least as most of their side seemed too young to have voted...

It's part of the Ombersley county seat though, isn't it?
