Does Galloway throw his hat in the ring?

Will he resurrect his career as an all rounder? Unerring ability to hit the middle wicket.

Will he resurrect his career as an all rounder? Oh wait wrong one. He would be stupid to do so with his views of Ukraine.

What’s the earliest possible date for the by-election? Presumably the writ can’t be moved until after the recess. (And until after he actually resigns).
EDIT: Ignore me, I forgot which party he was formerly a member of.

Does Galloway throw his hat in the ring? I'm not sure Wakefield is particularly a Galloway sort of place.

Can this thread be merged with the new one so that we don't have to be continuously and repeatedly frenziedly deranged at the sight of the lower-case w?

The hon member for Reigate must now undertake that period of silence.

For Christmas, my son bought me Broken Heartlands: A Journey Through Labour’s Lost England. It’s written by FT journalist Sebastian Payne, and a portrait of Wakefield is given in chapter 4. In the chapter the author tells of his conversation with the new MP, Imran Ahmad Khan:
“Within minutes [he writes on page 142], I concluded I’d never encountered a newly elected MP so enthusiastic and eager to impart their life story. Khan grew up in Wakefield. His father was a consultant doctor from Pakistan and his mother an English nurse, and he said he never felt fully at home within one community….
“Khan joined the Conservative Party as a boy, and his first campaign was helping Elizabeth Peacock in her successful bid to become the MP for … Batley and Spen ... When I asked what drives his politics, he launched into a mini soliloquy… 'If I were a stick of Blackpool rock, what would be written through the middle of me is freedom. The freedom to live, work, and worship as one wishes. There is no movement, no political party that champions the rights of the individual like the Conservative Party.' ..............
[one page later, at the end of the soliloquy, Payne writes:] “It was probably the most passionately I have ever heard a Conservative speak about their political beliefs or party.”
It would be fascinating to know Payne's view on the situation now!

He gave me the same speall in Harrys Bar along with a punch of unnecceasry racism.

Seeing Galloway canvassing in Ossett would be interesting… Why Ossett? It is probably the least Galloway friendly place in the seat, that springs to mind immediately.

The real question is whether the Yorkshire Party beat the Lib Dems.

Labour failing to gain this might trigger a challenge to Starmer.

I have just merged the two threads on this subject, to keep the board a bit tidier. I have also capitalised the thread title, to head off any further complaints about the "w" in "Wakefield" being lower case.
