Yes, but this is the most Labour of the 4 county divisions in Redditch, and like many new towns it is notoriously volatile politically.  Curiously the Headless Cross District ward, despite the dual mandate, is not in this county ward, and is much more Conservative.

They won a county seat in May, so they've probably got a bit of time left. But I would guess the end is in sight. It will surely be much harder for them to keep going with just one county division instead of 4-5 district seats.

One county seat down from about three a decade ago - and with more seats on the council so proportionally "should" have got four(?).

I know at one point they outnumbered the LibDems, but I don't have the data before 2013.

Just a matter of whether two letters from electors are recieved. In a similar vein, I imagine BCP will be hoping to avoid a by election in Highcliffe & Walkford, though I have a number of friends and relatives in that area.

Sad news as Les Winwood has been a fixture in Bridgnorth for all the nearly 30 years I've lived nearby.  

He would have had a big personal vote and with West/Tasley being a split ward (former Parliamentary candidate Julia Buckley in Ludlow and Shrewsbury is the Lab representative) this will be a competitive and interesting BE.

Exactly.

Just seems very unlikely to me. It's not at all obvious why it's in every party's interest not to have a byelection nine months before the big event. This isn't e.g. Ryedale where there is at least the vague excuse that the council itself won't exist in nine months, and the elections for its replacement have already happened.

How often does this happen? I seem to recall one example last year (Torfaen?), but there must have been something else at play since that was much longer. I can't see any cases in the thread for the 2019 elections, although perhaps I have missed something.

And of course, perhaps one day someone will consider the residents...

If the Stockport vacancy had happened in late September or October, rather than the start of August, the argument for not bothering with a by-election would have been much stronger. As it is I would expect a by-election to be called for September or October, particularly given that this is a hung council where every vote counts.
