“I am deeply shocked by today’s verdict. I am innocent and will appeal this verdict.
“As I said in court and repeat now, I have never threatened violence nor have I ever harassed anyone. The details of the events of the 25th of April that have emerged today are deeply personal. As the court heard, I was facing a domestic incident at the time of the call. I was deeply frustrated that my partner and my accuser had been socialising in the middle of the covid pandemic, contrary to the rules and all health advice. I was frightened and frustrated by his behaviour. But that fear and frustration could not and should not have been interpreted as harassment. The recording of the call has been taken out of context.
“I would like to thank all those who have supported me through this ordeal and continue to do so. These are the people who know me; my character, my values and my behaviour – they know I could not be guilty of this crime and I intend proving them right.
“While I’m preparing for the appeal I want to assure the people of Leicester East that I will continue to stand up for them in Parliament, fighting on their behalf.”

I can’t wait for a George Galloway VS Keith Vaz VS Prominent Hindu Tory Given the recent Standards report into Vaz and the recommendation he be stripped of his Parliamentary pass, I can’t see anyway he would be endorsed as the Labour candidate, and would be surprised were he to run as an Independent. As for Galloway, what would be his pitch amongst Hindu voters - Palestine and Kashmir aren’t going to get traction, and his critical stance on India/Kashmir are surely likely to be a negative for him? The seat is more the 20% Muslim

I would love to know what the proper context for the reported comments are supposed to be.

Sentencing November 4th. She may have worked out that legal costs of an appeal are less than MP's salary for the period it would delay any recall, rather than thinking she really can overturn this. As with Fiona Onasanya, I fear she will find it hard to make public friends and would be better for her to step out of the limelight.

I fear based on her performance in Parliament and Court that that calculation may be somewhat beyond her intellect. And her lawyers are hardly likely to dissuade her as I presume they’re not on no win no fee.

I would love to know what the proper context for the reported comments are supposed to be. Especially as she is reported to have said it eleven times

My advice is to hang on in there. Your reputation and future prospects are ruined, nothing you can do can recover them. Claim your expenses, buy a new toaster and kettle. Duvet and pillows. Save all you can. Then when it is over, move home. Maybe Scotland. And stand for the SNP

My advice is that you should read the article you linked to. "He will carry out the role in addition to his Parliamentary duties as MP for West Suffolk in the UK."And it turns out his UN burden is not going to be heavy.

Not a good advert for him given the UN's standards are rather low.

I see that you've returned to the fold. Yes. I posted why elsewhere. They did approve it. "I applied to rejoin the party in the early hours of this morning. I had been thinking about it all day in light of what happened to Sir David. Not long after his death was announced, someone shared his voting record in an attempt to justify the murder. That's repulsive clearly, but I was struck by the fact that he consistently rebelled on a select few issues he cared about. The party bigwigs had moved away from him on those issues, yet he stuck it out and stood his corner all the same while still maintaining a strong support and affinity for the Conservatives. I admire that, and I'd like to emulate it. I still believe in low taxes and social freedoms, but I'll stand for those values within the party, rather than without. I also feel like I belong here. It feels a bit weird not being a member of this party, and I sincerely hope they approve my application to rejoin, I'm paying 25 quid for the second time this year after all😅, soon."

Matt Hancock. Face, hands.......arse Doesn't really work. The "Hands, face, back to my place" meme was better.

Paragraph 206 of the Committee's report is an interesting one. Read between the lines and it's quite clear what they think happened.

We will see how this plays out. I would not be surprised that if this goes as far as a recall petition, then the petition would not break the 10% threshold (8356 signatures).
He's a very good fit for the constituency and he has a lot of goodwill and sympathy on his side after the death of his wife. As one of his constituents, I only voted for him in 2010 but I won't be signing* any recall petition if it happens. Apart from anything, should he retain the Conservative whip and the recall petition is successful and he chooses to fight the subsequent byelection, he will still be returned with a thumping majority.
*Actually, what are the rules concerning overseas voters and signing recall petitions?
