According to Balance of Power's Twitter feed, an as of yet unnamed Conservative MP and former minister has been arrested; the said MP has been accused of a variety of sex offences. "On Friday, 31 July, the Metropolitan Police Service received allegations relating to four separate incidents involving allegations of sexual offences and assault," the force said in a statement. "These offences are alleged to have occurred at addresses in Westminster, Lambeth and Hackney between July 2019 and January 2020. "A man in his 50s was arrested on Saturday, 1 August on suspicion of rape. He has been released on bail to return on a date in mid-August." So you can probably narrow the field considerably by filtering out all those aged under 50 and over 60.

The set of male Conservative MPs, who are ex-ministers but not current ministers, and aged in their 50s, is still reasonably large.
I make it 26 who fit into that category.

We need to be very careful about this, chaps.

We need to be very careful about this, chaps. I agree. It would be best to put this on ice until the MP in question is named and/or suspended. Otherwise this thread will just become a list of constituencies which have male Conservative MPs in their fifties. And on a broader point (referencing a discussion a couple of pages back), while this thread is a useful one I think there needs to be some substance behind posts here. No point getting all excited about by-elections which have no chance of happening.

Can not the 26 possibles be reduced by factoring in the locations mentioned? Reports say he was arrested at home... How many of the 26 have homes in the area mentioned?

As warned earlier, best not to speculate in writing. Yes, after all this is an active criminal case, not a game of Guess Who. As to a new thread, @pr1berske , I don't think that will be necessary at the moment. I'm all for setting out clear rules but it is useful to have just one thread to avoid confusion. It will only be necessary to create a new thread and lock this one if those rules are consistently broken. Edit: Actually, just realised your new thread would be for coming up with potential rules of thumb for this one. That's fine - I thought you meant a second "rumoured and ramped" thread!

I suppose we could have the most tasteless (and legally problematic) prediction competition in the forum's history, but it's highly doubtful that the mods of this place would appreciate it.

Wondering how removing the whip from the MP in question might be handled, for example, if they can't be named in public?
(for the record, I don't presently know who it is - though I have of course heard rumours)

If we could avoid posting anything that would get this place shut down, such as libel or anything that could be construed as contempt of court (should it ever get that far), I would appreciated it.
I will also disclose that I've deleted a post (and a couple quoting it) that could be seen as "naming names", so to speak, as a precaution.
Please don't speculate. Thank you.
