WYRE FOREST DC; Franche & Habberley North (ICHC resigned) Candidates: HINE, Doug (Independent) KNOWLES, Nigel (Labour) ROSS, David Richard (Conservative) WALKER, Oliver Yasha (Liberal Democrat)
2019: ICHC 956, 890, 651; Con 628, 536; Lab 628, 502; UKIP 338; Grn 318; LD 311 2018: Con 993; Lab 696; ICHC 452; LD 110; UKIP 81; Grn 40 2016: Lab 867; Con 695; ICHC 436; UKIP 385; Grn 62 2015: Con 2006, 1930, 1347; Lab 1443, 1113; ICHC 1137; UKIP 1039, 809, 742; Grn 437; TUSC 155, 112
Doug Hine has previously stood in other wards in the district for the Greens. He is proposed by the outgoing councillor (Susie Griffiths) from ICHC who topped the poll in 2019. David Ross was the second Conservative candidate in 2019 and Oliver Walker was the Lib Dem. Nigel Knowles was the Labour councillor for the ward, being elected in 2015 and 2016, he was also the top Labour candidate in 2019. He had previously been councillor for the old Franche ward from 2012. He was also county councillor for St Barnabas division (which has I think the same or very similar boundaries to this ward) from 2005-2009. This year David Ross held St Barnabas for the Conservatives with Nigel Knowles and Oliver Walker both also standing and Susie Griffiths standing for ICHC.
Current Council: Con 12; Health Concern 11 (9 ICHC, 1 Grn, 1 Ind); Ind 4; LD 3; Lab 2; 1 vacancy

Nigel Knowles has stood for parliament on several occasion for a number of mainly hopeless constituencies including Wyre Forest in 2010 and 1987, Solihull 2017 and 2015, South Worcestershire 1992, Bodmin in 1979, Hasting & Rye 1983, Wiltshire North 1997 (coming 3rd with 14% share in the Blair landslide) as well as Ludlow in 2001 and 2005. I cannot be certain but I think he confined himself to Wyre Forest District Council in 2019 as he would be around 73 by then.

It was noted at the time that 2019 was the first general election in 45 years without Knowles standing.

Am I to understand that this is a different Nigel Knowles from the guy who dominates my google results? Hilarious parluamentary career, anyhow.

Habberley is bloody weird, or it was, it's been a good few years since I've been there. It really didn't seem to fit well with the rest of Kiddy.

If ever there was a title for a 40s film noir about a local election, this is it.

It was raining in Franche. A thick rain that obscured the view of the votes gradually piling up. I watched from the shadows as the returning officer emerged from behind a veil of dense smoke. No longer. No longer will the secret be kept. Soon we will know the identity of the new councillor.

No longer. No longer will the secret be kept. Soon we will know the identity of the new councillor. Suddenly a shot rang out. Something had been perforated, and it wasn't a ballot paper.

Excellent, I wonder if the sound will prove good enough to hear the declaration.
