In a by election I think local trumps good in the desirable list of attributes for a candidate. Its not unreasonable to think that if he gets to parliament, Neil Shastri Hurst might well prove to be a better MP than Louis French. Or for that matter some anonymous housewife from Wem (whose name I forget and can'r be arse to look up, but who has all the hallmarks of a Diana Maddock or Sandra Gidley) This is an appalling piece of mysogyny even by your standards. Why "housewife"? I strongly suggest you mean "woman". Carole 's profession is chartered accountant, for what that's worth. And Sandra was, famously, a pharmacist (She's a communist! No, she's a pharmacist!) and Diana a teacher of EFL. Because women, you know, sometimes have professional careers.

Though of course Gidley held her seat for two more elections..... and Maddock had a distinguished parliamentary career in the Other Place. And Gidley became the first female President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Yes it's almost as if it had been designed to get some sanctimonious old fart frothing at the mouth. Thanks for obliging (not sure what my 'standards' are though in relation to 'mysogyny' - perhaps you'd care to elaborate on that?)

I had meant Helen of course and I won't bore you with the complicated associations that led to that incredible error- I know exactly why I did it- most unfortunate in the context of the debate above

if it's good cattle country it's good bison country. Though as there's no evidence that we ever actually had European bison it would be an introduction rather than a re-introduction. Come to think of it, there's a commercial herd on the Rhug Estate not that far across the border into Wales, though those are American bison. We had our own sovereign bison (the Forest Bison). It is close enough though as an alternate. Like the use of Tamworth's for Wild boar, which despite the latter running riot in the Forest of Dean and the New Forest is covered by the DWA and therefore unsuitable for rewilding projects with public access (see Knepp).

I wonder if Duncan Kerr has ever looked at a by-election return before.

Take a look at this Tweet: Reclaim spending just shy of £80k to get 375 votes; over £200 a vote.

Where the hell did Reclaim get £80k from and what the hell did they spend it on‽ Leaflets inscribed on vellum? We didn’t pick up any of that spend at the time, surely if that sort of money was in play it should have been more visible. Might they have posted all their leaflets? The interesting one for me is the Labour return, we know there were tensions about how hard to fight. That answers pretty clearly how much they were doing behind the scenes.

Any Conservative so far forgetting himself as to bring an action in a foreign kangaroo court against his own nation and a Conservative Administration, should be reviled, execrated and shunned for life as bottom feeding pond slime.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the ECHR ruled that party politics is inhumane and oppressive and the only proper way to govern is through the courts.
